RE: LGBT ramble
Tranny is offensive? It's like a childs name for a transsexual, because saying transsexual all the time is just way too long, tranny is just a short version of the word. Sounds to me like a kid giving out names.

As for fags and gays, earmuffs should be offended if I told him he is a fag? But the hard truth is that he actually IS a fag. Big Grin So, where is the offense here?

Yeah, yeah, people are strange and can be offended with all sorts of things.

Filox I said that a joke with friends is something different.
And just because a child makes up a name doesn't make it better. That is why we educate them to not call anyone names (at least we should) and we teach them respect (at least we should). Dunno Filox, but even my 3 - 5 year old kids at work where able to understand and apply that.

No, tranny is quite derogatory and condescending and dismissive.

And it's not the same when you're talking to your friends. Would you really call someone you don't know a fag? A person with mental disabilities - a retard? Or even all of them, generally - a bunch of retards? Cripples? Coons? In serious conversation, not when kidding back and forth with a buddy?

which is all well and good in theory, but you can't control other people and their actions you can only control how you react to it.
Oh, I know this. I'm just saying that people who constantly, without provocation and in all contexts resort to derogatory terms have some serious issues of their own.

Unfortunately, yes, yes I would and I do. I do not mean anything bad by it, I just use it. It is just that I think a whole lot differently about the whole LGBT issue(s) and I have a completely different opinion on names and how people call other people. I try to be polite when talking to strangers, because I know they think like 99% of the rest of the people. But when I talk to people who know me, I can talk freely and then I talk like an asshole, for those of you who do not know me and the way I think about this world.

Yeah, I AM an asshole and I do things in a strange way. Perception is a bitch.

Bitches.

Well, it still is about what is behind your choice of words. If it's just the way to talk (like GirlyWink) - fair enough. But if you (or anyone else) do it to be purposefully hurtful... No

Or simply uncaring about the feelings of others.

Yeah, I got it all figured out. I don't define myself by my sexuality, and having grown up "liberal," tend to find those who do to be cashing in on being the victim. Not here. Some of these discussions are meant to be insider and therapeutic, but...

Well, I just ain't gay. Undecided

Try telling that to Ellen January. Tongue

This, too, I think may fall under two categories: not caring, because you (general you) are plenty thick-skinned and kinda assume that most other people are or don't even realise your words might be considered offensive or just doing it because hey, that's the way I roll and you can suck my... hmm, yeah.

In all fairness, I think that there are very few people here who really fall into the second category. Or into the being purposefully hurtful one. And again, it is because of their own problems and demons (or is it gods Consider ) But I do tend to give people more credit than they deserve Dodgy
