RE: LGBT (sub)section?
I don't think it is redundant or anything like this.
Would you have asked what to put in the casual coffeehouse before it was implemented too? I mean we already had the this and that section where that kind of stuff went at the time.
I can think of many things that can go in a LGBT section. People's coming out stories, people seeking advice how to deal with difficult situations connected to them being LGBT(or any of the other letters). It can have things about parades or other events. It can have tips for lgbt friendly bars in different cities or reviews of such. It can have discussions about LGBT rights.
It can have something like what I posted yesterday: http://www.thethinkingatheist.com/forum/...arade-2017
It can have just thoughts and ideas about LGBT issues.

Yes, I see a point for a section like that and I don't see the self-segregation. I am still on this forum, i am still an atheist, and I still want to read and post in other sections. But if you search in this forum how many topics are spread all over the place that actually have to do with LGBT issues. I'd be happy to find them all in one section.

Anyway, it is just an idea. If it is not welcome, fine by me. Just wanted to put it out there.

I get what you're saying. It would be easy enough to do a search for the threads/posts that contain "LGBT" (for example) and link to them in a sticky sorta like that guy who was Near but now is far did with his resources link. Since they are spread all over the place, you'd need to organize them by topic within the sticky. I think there's also a way in the Search function where you can exclude offensive terms like "earmuffs". And you'd have to decide where to stick the sticky. Good idea. Somebody should do that.

RE: LGBT (sub)section?
Being disgustingly straight (but not narrow) Its not right for me to pass an opinion but I guess it depends on a number of factors such as is there enough demand for such a sub section etc, gay culture is unique so I support my gay/ transgender friends in whatever they decide they would like.

Do you know how long I've been campaigning for a Welsh-Austro-Jewish section? Angry

And I always get the brush-off because apparently this is "first and foremost an atheist forum not catering to minorities or other specialist groups" or some such!

Bloody disgrace, I tells ya!

It's also not a gamer forum or a conspiracy forum or food forum or .... see where I'm going? The sections are still there.

But I do agree. If there is no demand, then we don't need a section for it.

I'd happily get rid of the gamer, conspiracy and food sections... I don't do those things.

As long as I get my Welsh-Austro-Jewish section, I'll feel blessed.

RE: LGBT (sub)section?
What topics would your threads be? I bet most of them would fit under politics, news, history, personal issues or in the coffee house.

Food is food, and games are games, and people are people.

I am not so much for segregation of any kind.

Just do the threads, nothing is keeping you from talking about any and all aspects of it.

RE: LGBT (sub)section?
The difference between games and being gay is that gaming is a hobby. Being gay isn't a hobby, it's just the luck of the birth draw.
The things in the entertainment section are all hobbies or interests. It makes sense that we have those areas. You might not be a gamer, but that's fine you might prefer sports. It's not segregation because it's a choice. I can be gay and a gamer. I can chat with other gamers who are straight females. If someone's straight, they can't help it. It's not their fault they're straight as it's not gay people's fault they're gay and so it's a different situation. It's segregation and I don't think we should have it because it's exclusionary to those who aren't gay (which again, isn't their fault).
