LGBT
Some time ago, there was a discussion here on the forum regarding the LGBT community. More specifically, we were speaking about "transgender" or "transexual" individuals. From what I gathered, it seems that these two terms are viewed negatively by the LGBT community. (I'd link to the thread if I could remember what it was called)
I'm writing a story at the moment in which a character is a part of the LGBT community, and I'd like it to be as socially accurate as possible. Written as though it wasn't penned by a straight guy who knows fuck-all about LGBT and what certain people wish to be called. So, are "transexual" or "transgender" labels that are frowned upon? If so, what is the prefered description? Through profound pain comes profound knowledge. Ridi, Pagliaccio, sul tuo amore infranto! Ridi del duol, che t'avvelena il cor! |

RE: LGBT
As I understand, Transgender is the appropriate term.
But why not ask someone who is transgender? http://www.reddit.com/r/asktransgender |

RE: LGBT
The offensive "term" is tranny.
EDIT: And this is the thread. |
