Sure. It's just oats, ketchup, mustard, black beans all mushed together, then baked. You could throw in some garlic salt and onion salt in too (I usually skip that part). That's the way I make mine anyway.

A recipe isn't always foolproof, though. I made "sloppy joes" (barbecued beef sandwiches) once from a recipe in a cookbook, and i'm pretty sure I followed the recipe accurately -- and it was about the most bland and tasteless thing I've ever eaten. My roommate and I had to dump a bunch of chili powder in there to make it interesting enough to eat.

Another time, I made lasagna from a recipe in that same cookbook. It called for a clove of garlic. I didn't know what a "clove" was, so I used the whole bulb. It was actually pretty good lasagna, but really garlicky -- and my apartment smelled like garlic for a week. No vampires dared to come near me!

What did I eat today? Rib & meat combo from Famous Dave's (a local barbecue joint):

Ribs (St. Louis style)
Sweetwater catfish fingers (southern fried)
Wilbur beans (basically baked beans)
Corn on the cob
Cornbread muffin

I will not need an evening meal.

It isn't foolproof but it is a good benchmark. You do thing "how it should be done" and after that you can tweak it. It's a good way to make food I found.

I am having much less interesting leftover minestrone soup.
