I think we will, eventually.
I don't see it happening any time soon, though. Sad

Follow the money is always the sure thing. Up until the mass shooting gun stocks had been on a downward slope this year then comes the shooting and this one climbed 6% in one day. Here is the price chart of AOBS, makers of Smith & Wesson firearms. It was falling off a cliff (or a 32nd floor of a Casino) when pow, pow, pow! The price bounces back right after the tragedy. Am I being too cynical? Maybe.

The only thing I can nitpick on your analogy between tobacco and guns is that, for the most part excepting second hand smoke, people don’t actively try to murder you with a carton of cigarettes.

PS. One more chart

Yep, all that means are the factories love violence because violence is good for profits. All you need is a corporate lobby to pay off politicians, like the NRA, then the factories, lobbiests and politicians scare the crap out of gullible people to protect the profits of the industry.

Yep fear sells.

Same fear tactics were used by the Oil industry to keep led in gas. Same fear tactics were used by car companies when Nadar told them their products sucked. Same fear tactics were used by big tobacco to hide the dangers and keep their marketing to kids, like keeping Joe Camel.

So now firearms factories are making their products cute and pink to make them have the feeling they are not potentially deadly. And they market them as macho and fun, regardless of the truth that one is more likely to die at home, than defending from a complete stranger.

It isn't about rights, or the buyer one bit, it has always been about protecting the profits of the industry.

Democrat Presidents sell more guns than any Cabella's salesman....

True shit..

Want to see gun sales drastically rise?? Vote in Hillary...

....

Right now the gun stores are full of " scary black rifles", because nobody is buying.... Prices for an AR-15 are at a 10 year low.....

But vote in a ( D ) President???

Prices skyrocket and panic buying takes over....

...

And don't bitch at me - I'm just reporting the facts....

A grand piano is massive and quite complex -- you would expect it to be expensive. But a flute is basically just a hollow stick (yes, I know that's oversimplified), and they're expensive too! I have to say I'm surprised that you can only get three flutes for the price of a Bösendorfer. I wouldn't have thought they were that expensive.
Some of the cost comes down to 'what the market will bear' due to various entrenched traditional superstitions among musicians, which I won't go into here. Yeah, you can pay $50k to $100K (or more) for a flute, but whether that $50K flute is really ten times better than a $5K flute is highly questionable.

A while back there was an extended discussion in a mandolin forum I hang out in sometimes, as to how much the "best" instrument would cost. After the inevitable months of bickering over what was meant by "best", the majority opinion that emerged was that one could have a top quality, hand-made instrument with responsiveness and sound comparable to that used by any of the top pros, for maybe $4000 - $6000.

Now you can spend $50,000 on a mandolin, but what you're getting for that extra $45K is real gold tuning pegs, diamond studded tailpiece, antique ivory nut, and your name inlayed in genuine unicorn horn on the fingerboard, and an mink-lined case. That, or you're buying the spare that Bill Monroe kept in his garage for emergencies. All nice stuff, but it doesn't really change the sound.

But yeah, for any instrument you can spend pretty much as much as you want, and some maker will happily accommodate you.

Unless you count the tobacco companies that tell you cigs are good for you, as people. I think the Supreme Court said we can do that now.

The NRA has already spent more money on lobbying in 2017 than it did all last year.

True shit..

Yep. One of our larger local gun sellers actually ran an ad for most of last fall, thanking Obama and saying they were sorry to see him go, since he had been the best gun salesman they'd seen in 20 years. By the end of his second year in office their sales exceeded any year in their previous 30, and they increased every year, right up to the 2016 election.

And panicked gun hoarders -- devotees of Alex Jones and Glenn Beck and the like -- caused an ammo shortage for a while, stockpiling supplies while they waited for the feds to padlock the gun shops.

Wonder if they remember where they buried all that shit?
