Let's counter Islam
Hi guys.
I am an Asian and I was raised a Muslim since I was 8. My dad and my mum ain't fundamentalists, so I was kinda raised as a liberal one. But I stop believing in God and that cool place Heaven and the judgment day and the stories about the sins and the prophets 2 years ago. Agnostic and now a fresh atheist.

I felt the freedom and the happiness of being able to unshackle myself from the grasp of this religion.
But not for long.
My extended family is a fundamentalist and one of them which is my uncle claimed to have found God in one of his dreams. Ever since then, he has been teaching/preaching Islam to his wife and children (which I am sorry for because my cousins are like my brothers and sisters) and now to my family. He is quite rich so he is taking my whole family and his family to do the umrah in January.

Now, I am indirectly forced to study the religion; about the amount of angels, prophets, the rules of prayer etc.

I have come to realization that I do have interest in studying religion from and outer aspect; I would love to be another Karen Armstrong lol. So maybe this might be a good thing.

But I really want to ask, what do you guys think about the religion? Not from the aspect that it is one of the religions that kills to insist its truth, but from the inner aspect, like how it is more truthful or more falsified than Christianity or Judaism.

I would love to argue against my uncle but I only have gists of going against and religions and Christianity from this forum, nothing specific like Islam.

He once stated 'You know why Firaun's body is preserved in mummy form? Because Allah doesn't accept the body from being buried like the usual.'
I swear I wanted to facepalm at the time, but I didn't.

Sad(

The above religions are all monotheistic Abrahamic religions in that they are virtually identical except for a few minor details. From the inside, those details seem more significant than they really are. From the outside looking in, those differences are negligible. I would therefore not consider one to be more or less accurate than the others.

There's not really much difference between a Cafeteria Christian™ and a Mocktail Muslim™... at least the ones with which I am in regular contact.

They all are religious only insofar as it is cultural, traditional and convenient. They say they believe in a god and the root cause of that is usually relating to 'fear of death'.

But generally their behaviour is as secular and needs-driven as anyone else ... i.e human.

If you want to know what I think about apostasy, see Comparative Hats.

RE: Let's counter Islam
Scientific enquiry kills all religions equally well.

Take the idea of two angels sitting on your shoulders put forward by Islam. They are supposed to have some influence on the brain. We know the brain is made up of neurons connected up by axons and synapses. If the angels are to have some effect then there must be some form of energy and information transmitted both to and from the angels and the brain. They need to be able to read the current state of the brain and then change it. If true then it must be something that we can measure.

It's also no good saying that it's some form of energy that we do not know about. The supposed angels have to be able to influence the brain which is an electro-chemical system. There is absolutely no evidence for the existence of such energy travelling to and from the brain and the shoulders so it's up to your uncle to explain the exact mechanism by which it occurs. If he does then it becomes a testable hypothesis that can be falsified.

If your uncle starts talking about a soul then start asking him what a soul is and why we fall unconscious when put under anesthetic. Why do neurodegenerative diseases or brain damage destroy our personalities and memories if the brain is not the sole mechanism by which we think, behave and act? Is there any evidence for a complex pattern of energy persisting for a long period of time without the aid of matter?

If Islam is the truth then it can stand up to scientific enquiry. It has yet to do so.

If your uncle can't explain these mechanisms then he is asking you to believe in something without evidence. Why then should you believe in what he says over any other superstition if it's not the truth?

Disclaimer: Assuming you are going to Saudi to do the Umrah, I would caution against tying to have rational discussion on the matter while there. Openly practicing atheism or calling into question the fundamentals of the religion on which the government is based is legally defined as terrorism. If you get arrested trying to spread atheism to your family wile in Saudi, I take no responsibility Tongue

One is not "more true" then the other. They're all a load of shit.
Islam is a plague on society and by far the worst religion out there. It is a religion of violence and preaches violence.
Mohammad was a cunt who married 9 year old girls, though at least he actually existed which can't for certain be said about Jesus.

Just read up on sharia law and you'll see what I mean.

"There is no force in Islam."

Islam literally means "Submitting to Allah's will"

Countered.

Hahaa it seems that it is the worst of all religions. Do you have any books or any other things to recommend? Will research Sharia law!
