He is completely right. You can offer me a variety of scientific facts, and in reality it would amount to no more than someone repeating a series of baseball stats. While all of them may be true, it would just be all together a series of useless knowledge. While I like to hear about new scientific discoveries, etc.. I can't say that this amounts to anything more than a hobbyist pursuit, a luxury of free-time.

Atheists may have far more scientific knowledge on their side, but seem no more better equipped at handling their personal lives, than any run of the mill theist.

Preventable disease, the most likely reason you would have normally died before the age of ten, was not taken off the playingfield by "run of the mill theists".

Faith-based space programs have managed to put precisely zero men on the moon. Damned impressive ark in Kansas though!

And you're posting this adorable bit of irony on an internet made possible solely by centuries of scientific endeavor.

Keep reinforcing your ignorance with this notion of "hobbyist pursuits" though. That way you won't even notice your impending obsolescence.

Science: Delivering on religion's promises since before Christ.

Apparently you think the everyday problems of human life, consists of pondering about preventable diseases, and how the internet works. If only I can show my poor old neighbor how preventable diseases are cured, she would have avoided a life of suffering and disappointment.

If only the man going on his third divorce, the child left behind by shithead of a father, learned about the internet and preventable diseases. How many marriages would have been saved, how many rifts resolved, how many friendships created, if only they knew about the science of preventable diseases, and the technology behind the internet.

It's not that I'm ignorant, it's just that youre out of touch, perhaps from staring at a computer screen for so long.

For your tortured English and misguided attempts at misdirection, I present an amusing picture of heaps of straw.

Ooooooh. Tomato's new big word for the week.
Except it's wrong.
It's harBINGER, not harbringer.

You haven't brought us much.

No, I think it consists of driving cars, using the internet, buying things with no more than the wave of a credit card, and a myriad of other miraculously mundane events that occur seamlessly and invisibly to the "run of the mill theist" all courtesy of science.

Tell your poor old neighbor that we have scientists called "Medical Doctors" that do the preventable disease thing and she ought to be able to avoid the whole suffering and disappoinent thing. Emphasis on the word preventable.

Kindly inform your abused multiple-divorcee about the wonderful science of Psychology. He need not understand it to get his head or his life unfucked up. We have specialists trained for that.

I spend my days looking at rocks, not computer screens. Scientists have found that this is a more effective way to find mines than prayer. It also means that I'm a damned sight more out of touch than you can imagine.

And you are so stunningly ignorant that you are unable to fathom the depths of your inadequacy. You don't even know the words for the concepts that you are blissfully unaware of.

Says the man so out of touch that he imagines that the everyday struggles and problems of human life consists of driving cars.

I'd have to wonder what your own personal problems consists off, problems in your relationships with others, with who you are. I guess looking at rocks solves them hum?

When our everyday problems consists of questions of how to be a husband, a son, a mother, a father, a neighbor, knowing how automobiles and how rocks work isn't gonna do much for you.

And secondly reaping the benefits of any particular technological or scientific advance, doesn't require scientific knowledge of them. I don't need to know how a medication works to reap the health benefits of it.
