How do you know what thought was like "in the early days"?

Doesn't it stand to reason.....

At any rate I'm wondering if there is literature that reminds you of the atheist perspective even if it isn't actually about atheism.

If the theme of 1984 was an irreligious dictatorship, why do you read religion into it? Or do you consider socialistic humanism a religion?

The whole big brother thing. People blindly accepting what they are told. Thought crime.
Apparently it's about communism but I could help but to read religion into it.
I also like to tell creationists that I will not drag them kick in and screaming out of Plato's Cave.

He means that party and religion both tried to control population and it's thoughts and had punishment for disobedience and demanded worship.

Not exactly considered literature but The Matrix is another one. You live in a bubble fully controlled. You have no idea about the real world and most don't want to or are not ready to know. Sounds like religious belief to me.

The Matrix is Plato's Cave!
Lol. Yes, for me it all comes back to The Cave.

Hey, I started a thread some months ago about the similarities I found between God and Big Brother! Smile

God as Big Brother

I can't think of other books right now but I may come back when I do.

Oh, and, if I'm not mistaken, Orwell wrote 1984 inspired by his disappointment of Stalin's socialism. Or something.
