RE: Logic vs. Theism
And who would actually want "eternal pleasure"? I don't even want constant pleasure for a single day -- I prefer tasty little bits and pieces of happiness, rather than a steady diet of the stuff, and to just relax and let my thoughts drift the rest of the time.

I'm sorry, but your beliefs are much too silly to take seriously. Got anything else we can discuss?

Reminds me of that Twilight Zone episode. 'A Nice Place to Visit'.

A man dies and believes he's ended up in Heaven. After few days of having everything he wants he breaks down and begs Pip to go to the other place. Pip says;"This _is_ the other place", and starts laughing.

3 Above all, you must understand that in the last days scoffers will come, scoffing and following their own evil desires.4 They will say, “Where is this ‘coming’ he promised? Ever since our ancestors died, everything goes on as it has since the beginning of creation.” 5 But they deliberately forget that long ago by God’s word the heavens came into being and the earth was formed out of water and by water. 6 By these waters also the world of that time was deluged and destroyed.7 By the same word the present heavens and earth are reserved for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly.8 But do not forget this one thing, dear friends: With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years are like a day. 9 The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness. Instead he is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance.10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar; the elements will be destroyed by fire, and the earth and everything done in it will be laid bare.[a]

Actually, socialistview, I don't expect to receive anything at all after my eventual death. I expect that I will simply be dead, without pain, pleasure or desire of any sort.

Yeah, I don't think physics cares about what some dusty old book says. When you die, you decompose. There's no evidence that consciousness can exist without a brain to create it; it's a barely a coherent notion, like waves without a sea.

I have a website here which discusses the issues and terminology surrounding religion and atheism. It's hopefully user friendly to all.

SV, you should know by now that 2 Peter is a disputed book, and no serious academic thinks it was really written by Peter. Even Origen, of the early church, said it was problematic (though it fit his theology and so he accepted it fully, which is how it made its way into the canon).

2 Peter was a later addition to cover up some of the problems that were emerging when Jesus hadn't arrived, 2-3 generations later.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Epistle_of_Peter

For you to quote it to cover up the thing it was written to cover up, expecting us not to know it... well, it's a little bit sad. Learn your own scriptures' history, would you please?

Here, an article by a Christian on the subject of the formation of the Canon and why some of it is not valid for citation as original material.

https://bible.org/article/2-peter-peter%E2%80%99s

And shame on you, for yet again knowing less than the atheists in the room but presuming to tell us How It Is™.

(Edit: I accidentally put "Paul" at the top, where I obviously meant "Peter". Fixed.)

2nd Edit: You should probably read Dr. Ehrman's article in HuffPo about the subject, to break down why I'm so scornful of your citation of 2 Peter:

http://www.huffingtonpost.com/bart-d-ehr...40301.html

"Theology made no provision for evolution. The biblical authors had missed the most important revelation of all! Could it be that they were not really privy to the thoughts of God?" - E. O. Wilson

RE: Logic vs. Theism
Your spoiled astreja we should be pitied living in a world like this. We have a hope for something better than this whatever it is something better. Only when you at your worst do you hope for something better. And there's no evidence for conciousness just hope for the unseen results. And jude 1:9 goes with it. And romans 2 shows that it goes with the whole book.
