RE: Loneliness, community and nonbelief
I appreciate the thoughts. I guess we do die alone in the end, but I refuse to give in to the thought that things are going to get worse. I can't. I care too much, I think. That's why I'm writing here and why I made the appointment to see a counselor (the former being cheap therapy, and the latter being cheap at least for the first few sessions).

I've been told for years that real friends are few and that you will count them on your hand at the end of your life - and this has come from, of all people, Christians.

As far as Tuesday night: I chickened out. Counter productive, yes. The social anxiety kicked in big time, the same way it did whenever I tried to mix and mingle in singles groups at churches I used to attend. So I chickened out and instead am here having dinner - alone - getting ready to see a movie - alone.

Turns out there is ANOTHER meetup tomorrow night, at a local coffee shop. I'm gonna try to make that one for sure, hoping that the anxiety doesn't overwhelm me again.
