RE: Love your enemies?
You have to remember. This is CHRISTIAN love we're talking about.

Actually the Bible verse saying to love your enemies is Matthew 5:44.

For all practical purposes, the religion is not the book and it's not even the informal doctrines that might be derived from the book. It's the practice. Books and doctrines without practitioners are just abstract concepts and bits of paper and ink gathering dust on a bookshelf. Practitioners without a book are still a force in the world. So loving your enemies is a part of Christianity only so far as Christians DO it.

Of course, there are quite a few modern Christians who actually do embrace the idea and even practice of loving their enemies, and that's great, except it somehow robs them of the ability to counter the Christians who hate everyone and are spreading that hatred to government and society at large. I call this phenomenon "Yeatsism". The best of the religious lack all conviction, the worst are filled with passionate intensity, and thus the religion becomes a force for evil in the world even if the version held by the (spineless) majority is benign or even positive.

IMO Jesus is talking about how Christians (rather than god) are to behave. It's one of many places in the Bible where believers are commanded to hold to a much higher ethical standard than their god does.

No. I don't love my enemies. That would be ridiculous.

Is there no decency anymore? Just look at all that skin showing, it rivals a thongkini!

RE: Love your enemies?
I neither love nor hate my enemies. I just don't want them to be alive because they're contradictory to my view of the way I want the world to be. Or maybe we just both need the same thing and there's not enough to go around. Nothing personal.

RE: Love your enemies?
It always amazes me when people try to claim Christianity is about love, but really it's only about love under certain conditions, i.e. loving god, and if you don't love god you're a terrible person, and people completely ignore this, because they don't want their precious religion to look bad. If you're going to believe in your religion at least be honest about what your religion says. Just a pet peeve.
