I don't want to cloud your judgement so I'll save my response until later ...and no, I won't plagiarize you thoughts Wink

What's your analysis of the article?

"...but believing in nothing but the material world is cold comfort."

Why should that be? The material world is a wonderful thing. Being all that there is, it encompasses everything in our experience; yes, even love, music, art, compassion, self-sacrifice, altruism, inspiration, and intuition. To me, the best thing about the material world is learning how it works; the dictates of theology pale in comparison to the discoveries of biology and cosmology.

Theists always assume that atheists are "missing something".

Delusions aren't substantial enough to merit being missed.

Seems like a little simplistic feel good.

The essence of life is statistical improbability on a colossal scale.

Chopra talks a lot but rarely actually says anything. Most of article is just generalities that don't mean much. When he does skirt close to a claim, it's wrong, like

Quote:There are gradations of belief. In fact, 17% of people who identify as atheists still go to church -- they have social and family reasons for their choice rather than religious ones.

Attending church for social and family reasons doesn't require some "gradation of belief".

Quote:I feel for people who get stuck in any belief system, including rigid skepticism. They are signing up for the suppression of curiosity.

There is nothing preventing a skeptic from being curious; if anything it seems to amplify curiosity.

Quote:[Chopra]'s but a walking shadow, a poor player
That struts and frets his hour upon the stage
And then is heard no more: it is a tale
Told by an idiot, full of sound and fury,
Signifying nothing.

Atheism: it's not just for communists any more!

They actually cited their source for this one if you click the link behind the text "17%..." I'd love to see the study on this one though. I wonder if the study was done in the bible belt, or Jerusalem, or something like that. The number just seems ridiculous. Almost 1/5 atheists go to church. really? Never met one and I know a good handful of atheists
