If you would like an explanation I can link you to the rules and a flash tutorial. It's a fun little game of hidden identities were in a small group is designated Mafia and their goal is to kill all the other players without being found out. The other group is designated the town and their goal is to eliminate the mafia through mob justice. Every day is split into 2 phases a day phase and a night phase. These phases can vary in length but on this forum we generally keep them to about 12 hours in length (it lets every one from all the different time zones have a chance to play)

Day phase is the more active phase as far as talking things out goes. That is the phase every can vote for who they think is mafia (various players will be given roles that can investigate and determine whether a player is a friendly or a mafioso) At the end of the phase who ever has the most votes (depending on the game some require more than 50% others just say whoever has the most votes of the votes cast) is lynched and their identity is revealed. That is how the town can eliminate mafia players.

Night phase is when most special powers and jobs happen. The mafia can Target 1 player to be killed each night. Other roles such as the cop can investigate a target player during this phase and receive information back at the end of the phase. There are various roles that can prevent a killing during this phase (the doctor for instance can target a player and they become immune for a night kill).

The interesting part of the game is figuring out who is who if you are a townie or trying to lie your way into peoples trust if you are a mafioso. The Mafia all know who each other are and work as a team from the beginning. The town however does not know who anyone else is (some roles negate this The Lovers for instance start the game knowing who their partner is) So it requires some trust some teamwork and a good strategy to win in this game.

It used to be standard practice to include the guide for new people. If your interested you can always hop in. It's the easiest way to learn.

Here is the general guide.

Plus, if I actually played with these rules in mind I would just fuck over all of my "team mates" as well.

Sorry Hughsie, I'm gonna back out as well. No offense.

Well, I gotta admit I think it's pretty sad that you're more bothered by getting six letters after your name than actually enjoying the game but if it bothers you that much I'll change it. I think there should be an element of sacrifice to someone sacrificing their life (I think it adds more realism to the game, up the stakes, and creates an interesting personal gain vs team game aspect) but I'm really not that bothered by such a minor thing.

I think I'm just not gonna have stated winners if it's this contentious. Everyone can decide at end of the game who they personally consider to be winners and losers. I'll change the OP when I get home from work.

Meh. I don't care one way or the other.
In these games I can at least pretend to be noble enough to die for a greater good Tongue
