About the religious influence... something you fellow comic nerds should be ashamed about ignoring...

DC heroes and villains are like Gods. DC themselves admit this. So yes, their films and comics have a religious tone to it.

Marvel on the other hand is about realism. Their characters are mutated versions of us. The "Gods" in their universe come from alternate dimensions or far away galaxies.

I believe what Jor-El intended was to have the genetics from the Codex distributed amongst the people of earth in the more traditional way, through Kal-El breeding, thereby bridging the gap between kryptonian and human.
