Martyrs (2008) "Atheist Approved"

This is a FANTASTIC film. Even though it came out back in 2008, I won't spoil the juicy goodness.
Apparently there's a motherfucking American remake in the works, which I will NEVER EVER see.
(Just like I will NEVER EVER see "Let Me In". What a fucking disgrace. Weeping Whatever, that's another story.)

Or should we spoil it? I mean, it has been out for four years. That way we can discuss the... subject matter...

Whoa, just discovered this forum's spoiler code! Thumbsup
OK here goes:
When this happens:

Members of the society begin gathering at the house to learn of the insights Anna shared with Mademoiselle. As Mademoiselle prepares herself, a doubting member asks her if what Anna said was clear and precise. Mademoiselle replies that there is no room for interpretation, and asks him if he could imagine what comes after death. When he says no, she tells him to "keep doubting" and places a pistol in her mouth and shoots herself.

...I just about shit myself. The "keep doubting" line (to me) confirms there is nothing after death.

Any other interpretations?

Unsurprisingly, that is the part that Americans want to change in the remake. Take a look at the wikipedia article and this line:

"[The original film] is very nihilistic. The American approach [that I'm looking at] would go through all that darkness but then give a glimmer of hope. You don't have to shoot yourself when it's over."

Missing the point much?

Wow, that's just horrible.
This is one film that definitely does not need a remake!
It's already perfection...

The American 'Dragon Tattoo' was far better than the Swedish version.

Could a consequence of having seen the US version first. I watched the Swedish version and just didn't like it as much. I felt Rooney Mara made Lisbeth Salander more believable and Daniel Craig is great no matter the role.

My thread about the movie. Well.... my thread about Rooney Mara.
