RE: Mass Hysteria and religion
I'm surprised that list didn't contain any mention of the Salem Witch Trials, or the witch panic that spread across Britain in the 17th century.

The Salem Witch Trials was on one list I came across, that and the McCarthy era trials. I still like the Meowing Nuns though. That I'd love to have seen. If the Pope starts meowing and it spreads to the archbishops, that would be gold!

Shakespeare's Comedy of Errors.... on Donald J. Trump:

He is deformed, crooked, old, and sere,
Ill-fac’d, worse bodied, shapeless every where;
Vicious, ungentle, foolish, blunt, unkind,
Stigmatical in making, worse in mind.

Charles MacKay came close to linking religion and hysteria in his "Extraordinary Popular Delusions and the Madness of Crowds" but did not take the final step. Impressively, the book was written in 1841 but could pass for a modern work. Highly recommended.

I'll look for that. Thanks. I love history.
