It's slow but it's danceable. It's also country because country rocks.

RE: May I pick your brains...
Oh my. Thanks for taking the time to post videos. I tried to post yesterday afternoon shortly after my initial post to tell you that my ancient browser will not allow me to watch videos....but I kept getting an error message and then I got bumped offline.

Here is that post:

Hmmm...well, I cry easily. "Wind Beneath My Wings" would do it. And..lyrics of "First Time Ever I Saw Your Face" imply sex, although I get the idea. A long and painful labor with this one, tough,..so I wasn't that interested in his face, just that he was OUT. LOL

Ozzy has a love/hate relationship going on there.

I like "The Arrival of the Queen of Sheba". Not so sure about the dancing to it, though.

And...thanks for the videos, but my browser is too ancient to be able to show them to me.

So...what do you think about "Young At Heart"? Frank Sinatra or Jimmy Durante?

Really...no AC/DC or Dire Straits? He would love an AC/DC mother-son dance song. They do a slow dance song, don't they? No?

There are Irish dance songs, but no Scottish. Discrimination there. We are Scottish/French.

Thanks friends. We have a little time until September.

So....Wonderful World will make me cry too, but it is a good one and tempting.

Thanks for all the suggestions.

My youngest son and I danced to "Stand By Me" ...Seal's version. It is hard to find a song with meaning that isn't saccharine and has a moderately fast beat and isn't filled with sensual terminology.

Billy Joel's "Just The Way You Are" works well, but a close friend of his just used this song for the mother-son dance at his wedding.

In this new tradition, my family prefers to avoid the "traditional" style if we can, so I am open to all reasonable suggestions. Dire Straits, AC/DC...Stones? Celtic? "The Mountains of Mourne" is a beautiful melody, but a rather moody song. Cajun?

Still...we have to get it by his fiancee... Or not...

I appreciate any help.

Okay, a bit different from the rock side of things, but an awesomely incredible song of love and longing all the same.
But may be too "eros romantic" for a Mon & Son good-bye? Maybe not.

RE: May I pick your brains...
Ok. I'm gonna break out the big guns here ...

It's best in this stripped down version with just M Gainsbourg & his piano...

Simple melody, short and sweet ... a waltz ...
Heart
... a dance ... of love.
Which, according to the French, is the dance of life.
I am compelled to believe them.

It's about loving and continuing ... to love.

The words are a French play on words (the letter V, actually) so, the consideration of the words is always open to a bit of interpretation.

However the lyrics are generally as follows...
The Javanaise - very roughly (possibly, nostalgically Wink ) translated

I admit I didn't fawn all over you, my love
When you came along, my love
Whether we like it or not ...
While dancing the Javanaise
We loved each other for the length of a song

In your opinion what have we seen of love?
Between us, you've got me, my love
Whether we like it or not ...
While dancing the Javanaise
We loved each other for the length of a song

Alas, April (i.e. springtime) vainly devotes me to love
I wanted to see that love in you, my love
Whether we like it or not ...
While dancing the Javanaise
We loved each other for the length of a song

Life is not worth living without love
So it is you who has intended this, my love
Whether we like it or not ...
While dancing the Javanaise
We love each other for the length of a song

Here is also a sweet, jazzy version - again, stripped down to just a singer and a single instrument...

I think this jazzy version may be my new favorite. Shy

There are quite a few lovely covers by many on YouTube ...
https://youtu.be/RpQ8JGfEPDI -
https://youtu.be/R-4gBfN6RCo -

Many others are just as lovingly vulnerable and tender.
In the end, it comes down to the mood, I think.

There's even an Iggy Pop version: https://youtu.be/T1F6wUwDP1w
Yes, charming but, a teensy bit dirty-old-man-ish for a wedding. Wink

How about an instrumental? "Sleepwalk", from Santo & Johnny, is a little on the slow side, but I could see that working.

RE: May I pick your brains...
Sleepwalk is just a good classic slow dance song.

I am so sorry that I cannot watch videos on my browser. Kim, what is the song?

Just found out the wedding is to be a "very formal" wedding. Might be good to know, ya think? Outside at a winery with reception inside. Communicate these facts to me, please!

Oh...and my son and I are not saying goodbye; she is moving to our little kibbutz...well, actually she is already here.

If you want to suggest a song, please tell me the name of it.

Thanks for your suggestions.
