Metaphors for Depression
Sister's boyfriend offed himself last week. He suffered from clinical depression. So do I. Coincidentally I had to do a tactical pause and a personal check of my subordinates today due to an uptick in suicides in my organization. Got me thinking about how I would describe my black dog when it's unchained.

You got a metaphor?

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.

RE: Metaphors for Depression
Sometimes it rains...huge looming and ominous storms. But its not raining outside.... its raining in me.

I tell myself I have control over life. Yet this independent will can do nothing but hold on and weather the emotional storm... at its mercy.

Covering oneself's up... remembering sunny days... waiting for a break in the clouds....

I feel so much, and yet I feel nothing.
I am a rock, I am the sky, the birds and the trees and everything beyond.
I am the wind, in the fields in which I roar. I am the water, in which I drown.

RE: Metaphors for Depression
A downward spiral. Sadness leads to isolating, which leads to more sadness, which leads to feeling like you can't move, which leads to hopelessness. Each symptom compounds the last. It's slippery and sneaky.

I hope that the world turns, and things get better. But what I hope most of all is that you understand what I mean when I tell you that, even though I do not know you, and even though I may never meet you, laugh with you, cry with you, or kiss you, I love you. With all my heart, I love you. - V for Vendetta
