Missed opportunities (LONG)
Alright, before you go any further this
is LONG winded. I had told my self to stop posting on this forum, but
honestly it is safest place for me to post and reach a larger
audience. These are two different letters that I wrote recently and a
few new thoughts just for here. So for the people that are interested
. . .

First off I read, watch and listen to
a lot of liberal, progressive, and science news. I use the knowledge
that I have acquired over the years to form my opinions. It happens
to be quite extensive and unique to my tastes in the world. I have
been known to change my opinion with a good valid information. (The
question of god is irrelevant as far as I am concerned. I share
similar points of views on the subject with the more notable names in
the “movement”, and I will not reiterate any further different
subject for a different time.) My most recent change in opinion was
on drugs. I used to be one of the hard nosed idiots on the subject
and you can read more about that on my comments in the cannabis
section of this forum. Anyways, my point hear is missed
opportunities.

Personally I choose to look at the
recent tragedy at the movie theater in Colorado as an opportunity to
try and change our world for the better. Unfortunately, all the so
called, “liberals” decided to focus on the guns, again. I will
say this right off the bat, guns are not the issue, period. Okay so
the problem here is that it seems like the majority of so called
“liberals” start acting like all the right wing nuts and
Christians they claim to be nothing like. All I have seen are liberal
bullies. I have noticed that the arguments and debates end up very
much in tone like the ones that Christopher Hitchens had with various
religious folks. Those who watched the debates are well aware that
Hitchens never lost his cool. This has very much been the same
atmosphere from most of the liberals. It is funny in a very sad way
that they do not want to consider that depression plays a large roll
in all the recent upticks in violence. Again why do so many people
refuse to believe that our depressed, over worked, and repressive
environment did not play a large roll in the recent decades violence?

What I do know is that if you have a
society of people that are all employed, taken care of, and
reasonably worked. (There is one hundred and fifty years of research
that says people do there best working no longer then 8 houres, 5
days a week.
http://www.alternet.org/visions/154518/w...age=entire
)

Why is it so hard for so many to
accept this? What I do know is that most people in the world do not
want to hurt each other. Most of the so called “criminals” do
share certain things in common. They were usually driven to crime
because of there environment. In very few cases people are born with
mental issues. (Also most of the really rich, meaning the ones who
have inherited their money and some bankers and traders are
psychopaths. The link can be found on a lecture on richard dawkins
youtube channel.) So why is it not a good investment to help everyone
out? And why is it so hard to believe that stress and depression can
cause normal people to snap? There are religious/superstitious
elements in all the cases including the most recent one. There are
lots of people out there that own fire arms, even people that own
crazy amounts of fire arms. When it comes down to it the inanimate
objects do not mater. What would have happened if someone simply
threw a Molotov Cocktail in a crowded theater? He even could have
jammed the doors shut. Any number of possibilities could have
happened. It still does not change the fact that our countries
freedom to bare arms is a closely guarded freedom. Our other freedoms
should be treated with as much if not more attention. The reasons may
not be the same and I think that far to many people have watched too
many news broadcasts that have ramped up the reports of violence and
scared the crap out of people.

One thing that I know for a fact is
that all of the security bullshit and loss of freedoms have not done
anything for this country except made a few bastards rich and a hell
of a lot of people scared. I am a veteran and I joined and fought
four our rights and freedoms. Those I felt were more important then
my own life. We has a nation should come together for our freedoms
and rights to live our lives on this planet to the fullest we
possibly can. I see the so called, “gun issue” as an opportunity
to open a dialog with opposing views on a common theme. When you
study the natural world around you, you begin to understand how
connected we all are to each other and that we have much more in
common with the world around us than most of us realize. You even
begin to catch a glimpse of how cool our own brains actually are. For
a lot of gun owners, shooting is very much like playing golf. (Note:
I do not currently own a gun, not that it matters.) But when it comes
down to it, their weapons are symbols of their freedom. We need to
change our perceptions and dialogs. We need to understand and learn
about the things we fear in order to overcome them. Be cautious about
infringing on others freedoms.

How will this end?

Copy cat or no if I want to see a
movie I am going to see a movie. The chances of something horrible
happening to you is still relatively low even if these events are
higher then they have ever been. (Hmm . . . lets see a bunch of born
rich religious assholes think they are better then everyone else and
that their own personal imaginary friend has endowed them with being
born into a rich family, decided to carry on the family business of
making everyone else poor while they wait for the apocalypse. We
have the largest wealth disparity in the history of our country and
the largest drop in education. Hmm . . . I wonder if that might have
something to do with the rise in weird crimes and suicides? According
to the media people that wear costumes like guns or drugs and our
poor are the biggest threat to our nation. And I know that I have far
too many “friends” that would agree with whatever they are told,
because the truth and common sense don't count to them.) Letting
fear run your lives is the stupidest thing you can do.

Not one reporter is going to ask the
real questions. Here's one, I wonder why someones own mother would
claim their son to be the killer? Hmm . . . I wonder what kind of
environment he was brought up in? Also I guaranty that it would have
been less likely that it would have been her son if she couldn't
believe it. Fucking terrible woman. Also the colambine idiots came
from strict religious families. But no that could never be the
reason. (According to the reporting it was video games, techno
industrial music, and movies.) Mentally unstable man eats another?
According to every dumb ass out there it must be bathsalts because
some asshole cop had an opinion with out facts. But again did not
have anything to do with the fact that the man was unstable and
highly religious, (No horrible stories in those books now or so they
keep telling me.) People still can't figure out that minimum wage
should be at 20-25 dollars an hour. (Do the math and research from
the 60s to present day.) Having correct and accurate information is
key to understanding the natural world and how cool we actually are
as human beings. Believe it or not our society is much less dangerous
and violent then it has ever been, our reporting and sensationalizing
of it has gone thru the roof. And People are quick to cower and give
up their rights out of fear. I will tell you something you want to
overcome your fear? LEARN about the world around you, the natural
world, the world science opens up for you.

Don't think science is cool or can be
fun? You just haven’t looked in the right places. (Go out to the
middle of nowhere with out lights on a clear night and look up at the
sky.) I have seen some horrible things in my days on this planet and
real life too, not just on the internet. What I have learned from it,
is that our morals come from our evolution and that we fight against
our natural instincts to help each other out because of fear. The
more you learn and understand without being afraid of knowledge. (For
instance: Learn about racists and bigots, it is you best defense from
them.) This fearful life that everyone seems to want to perpetuate
out of fear. Because they have not learned. Your so called tough guys
are really cowards the tougher they act the more afraid they are. It
is sad. One thing you learn after seeing horrible things is that,
(You may need to look at lots of pictures of puppies and kiddies. Tongue
It is true though DSmile It is all so senseless, so unnecessary and very
sad. You begin to see things with new eyes, even the most fucked up
horrible images have a different context if you allow yourself to see
it. Knowing why we do the things we do and in what circumstances is
important. We are better than we think we are. We often create self
fulfilling prophecies, what do you think this nonsense with 1999,
2000, 2001, 2012? It is all bullshit but people keep eating it up.
There is nothing wrong with fantasy. It is good for you just like
masturbation is. One of the reasons violence has gone down is because
our violent media has gone up. Such as games and movies. It allows
for people to vent stresses in a harmless way. Do not get mad at
someone because they said a demeaning word to you. Be mad at intent
not the words. If you are watching a comedian and you find yourself
offended, you may need to think about your situation a little harder.

The world could change overnight if
we wanted it too. For give the debt on houses and student loans
within reason. Raise the minimum wage to 25 dollars an hour, (Where
it should be. And no that doesn't mean that it raises the prices of
everything it just means that most people do not know how bad they
were ripped off really by the 1%. Do the research if you have trouble
with that.) Legalize drugs and prostitution. (Everyone is a pervert,
get over it and live your life already.) Take the money out of
politics they should be public servants not rich lawyers that want to
scam the system they have tweaked in their favor. Cut the defense
budget in half at the very least, large portions are going to
mercenarys (so called, “Contractors”) and weapon systems that
don't work anyways. None of that money helps our troops. They come
back after fighting for rich oil and hard drugs and our troops get
left out on the street. Oil I think you guys can figure out, but the
“hard” drugs? That one caught you didn't it? Let me explain. The
drugs I am referring to our imported, most of the heroin in the world
comes from Afghanistan. In fact our troops were guarding poppy
fields. Also the cia has been involved in the drug trade for many
years confirmed since Vietnam and 90s LA. You really think they
stopped? If our security is really doing its job then how come those
drugs keep coming in but you only hear of marijuana busts on the
news? Wow what brilliant shit heads in the dea full of tough guys
that bust medical marijuana sites. (They are not hard to find)

Also a fun fact. Eisenhower's warning
about the military industrial complex is a warning we should be
taking very seriously right now and I mean as a planet. Do you know
who uses the most oil on our planet? The military does. People just
don't crunch the numbers. The money they have spent on destroying
this planet could easily pay off every single persons debt right now
free and clear, hit the reset button and start a new. Think about it.
If the steps I suggested were taken, meaning every broad cast
tomorrow was the truth about how we can really change our world and
what it would mean for everyone involved. If we just did it. On the
hemp alone we could have a superior cheaper product that grows fast
and has tons of uses. Think how many trees would just be able to
grow?(For those that don't know, Hemp grows faster then trees do) And
it would be good for the environment. Imagine what people would be
able to do when they were able to make 25 dollars an hour on minimum
wage and how that would give us back the self sustaining economy that
we once had before an idiot president in the 80s decided to give his
rich buddies more money. He also increased the homeless population by
de-funding mental institutions. What is wrong with taking care of
people? Why can't they get the care they need?

I guaranty one thing that is that if
this happened our country would be back on top again and by fixing
our own country we could fix the whole world. Violent crimes would be
going down like crazy people would learn and want to explore and take
care of the planet again. Go back to space. Not freak out or get
offended by bullshit non-issue pc stuff (PC = politically correct =
bullshit) A persons body is their own and it is none of yours, mine,
or anybody else what they do with it. As long as you don't hurt
anyone who cares. By the way, the countries weight problem is due to
a combination of things, but mainly people eat when they are
depressed and people are depressed when they don't have money. Also
having too much money does the same thing it builds a psychosis. Like
star trek? We could be living it right now for real if people learned
more and educated themselves. It would also make for a safer
environment. Remember what I said about overcoming fear? Think about
peoples sexuality compared to how many facts they know about the way
a human body works. There is nothing to be afraid of with our bodies.
Learn about it.

Just don't buy everything everybody
sells you. Think for yourself not your imaginary friend. Learn about
this world and its creatures, it and ourselves are far more amazing
then even we could imagine. Also spending your days worrying about
terrorists, zombies, or the end of the world is a waste of time. Save
it for video games, way more fun than reality.

To whomever will read this objectively,

First off and I will try to make this
as pithy as possible, I truly value your news site and have come to
rely on its common sense and facts. However, after reading the
assorted articles on “gun violence” I have become yet again
disheartened by yet another failed opportunity for reason. Regardless
of the stupidity of the NRA and manufacturers of fire arms in recent
decades in their involvement with things such as “stand your ground
laws” I find those points irrelevant to the real issues which
admittedly were touched on but not carried through on. It is a missed
and very important opportunity to reach the more conservative points
of view. (I do not own a gun though I am familiar with them being a
vet myself. And the “gun issue” is one of the very few things
that I agree with the right wing side of things. Though most
assuredly, not for the same reasons. Freedom and equality for
everyone I hold with the utmost importance.) I was very relieved to
see that this was one of the very few sites that did not jump to
conclusions on the so called, “Bath Salt Zombie Cannibal” or
whatever. It was a breath of fresh air for me. This has not been the
case with, “gun violence”.

Our freedoms and our striving for
equality should be of the utmost importance. This includes our right
to bare arms, just as much as any other right that we should
understand and value. I understand violence as much as any other
human being does and perhaps a bit more in some cases. One thing that
I do know for sure is the more you understand about the natural world
thru science; the more you begin to see that all the violence and
greed truly is senseless. We could change our whole world tomorrow if
people understood their world a bit better. (This is one of the main
reasons I decided to write to you, so perhaps I could have a chance
to change the dialog to what is truly important.) The one thing about
violence in our media, (with the exception of the fear mongering in
news for ratings) is that it actually has brought down violence, be
it video games, movies, or books. Anyone that has seen true horrors
will know that it does not come close to the real thing. That being
said there has been a rise in violence in more recent years. This,
however, seems to have more to do with our countries stress level,
dismal education system, and a culture of punishment then anything
else. All of this because a small amount of humans (who all seem to
be born in to wealthy families too.) learn from their own imaginary
friend that they alone are better than everyone else and it doesn't
matter because their personal imaginary friend will take care of them
even after they die. With the jump in suicides, strange murders, and
mass murders, says more about the lack of education then anything
else. Be thankful that the individual responsible didn't try crashing
a semi-truck full of gasoline into the theater. The point is that
guns are a distraction from the real issues that plague our world.

Our ability to live on our own planet
is becoming day by day more endangered and we are running out of time
to be able to try and heal the damage that we have caused. The
saddest thing is that it is all avoidable and unnecessary. We need to
do our very best to change the dialog. (One of the main reasons I am
bothering to write you all, at all.) The fact is all these events are
related. People are acting out of fear and the only way to fight our
own fear is education. (I mean education in a broad sense not just
school.) You can go down the line and look at the big picture, the
growing disparity and poor educational system is the cause of most of
our woes. It happens with our language too. Most of the news will
report “Drug Violence”, however, in reality it is really
prohibition violence. This relatively minor change in dialog makes
all the difference in the world. Politicians know this having most
of them came from lawyer backgrounds. We would be wise to change our
ways of thinking and our dialog if we hope to survive. Just in our
country alone if you do the rough math minimum wage starting from the
60s to present day should be at around twenty five dollars and hour
not seven. Even the hours per day we all work is terrible to our well
being. (This includes school, which should be addressed.) So from
religion, money, and education, our society has fallen apart. I for
one to not want to see peoples fears get the better of them and end
up with more bullshit laws and less freedom. Banning things was never
the way. Education is always the way.

We are all equally important and we
all have unique points of view. My words are no less important then
yours. We need to devote our time and resources to helping each other
out and living in a world that values education. Think what it would
be like if you could drive knowing that everyone had a good education
and were not just trusting their driving to superstitions and
assorted nonsense. A world where every human is taken care of no
mater how many times they failed at something. A world that does not
give up on its mentally ill and takes care of them safely. A world
that is more interested in exploring this universe. We has humans
rose up thru our unity and working together.

Take another issue that was in the
news. The kids that were making fun of a grandma. Seriously?! This
was another missed opportunity to address a real issue. People make
fun of the things they fear and kids have a lot to fear from the
adults and authorities around them and the utter stupidity they carry
with themselves. Punishing the kids solved nothing. We do have some
real concerns on our planet, then to waste time on nonsense. Take an
article that I read on your own site about the stupid stop and frisk
law in new york. You know what it told me? More people wanted to
smoke pot then kill someone. Before I keep going on and on and
risking wasting my time again trying to request a more reasoned
approach to these stories. (Most of the stories you publish are
fantastic, don't get me wrong.) The point is that our society does
not need to be this way. It is not necessary and we can do much
better if we all try to work together again. We need to focus on the
real issues without fear. If you have read this I truly thank you for
taking the time to read this. I hope it has given you something to at
the very least think about. Sorry if it was too long, I really think
it is important. Again Thank you.

I actually read about half of it... It's indeed long.
I was waiting for the missed opportunities part and when it wasn't in sight, I stopped reading.
Maybe I just don't get it though, or maybe my brain is too soaked in medication right now...

RE: Missed opportunities (LONG)
I agree with about 98% of what you have said.

I think all drugs and prostitution should be legalised, just because its illegal doesnt mean people actually stop doing it and they never will.

I agree with a lot of what you said about addressing a lot of problems. I think societies do have there own unique blueprints of "possibilities" that 9 times out of 10 will accurately produce the same people. That the experiences people have growing up define who they are, so therefore in this lies the actual root of a lot of problems.... the problems themselves are just the symptoms and not worth treating if you want the problem to go away permanently.

I think the two things stopping this from happening (at this moment in time.... maybe not never) are....

1: Our individual uniqueness and the denial of how we are basicly, when stripped down, all the same biologically.
2: The biggest "god" ever AKA Money (I say god because so many people including myself place "faith" into it, its creation and how the ponzi scheme actually works, yet it is the most controlling factor on the earth)

For no matter how much I use these symbols, to describe symptoms of my existence.
You are your own emphasis.
So I say nothing.

To put it as simply as I can the majority of, “liberals” and “conservatives” switch rolls when the subject comes up. Mainly one group trying to restrict another groups freedoms. Freedoms being the part that should be focused on. Most people don't so they miss an opportunity to open up a real conversation.

The first one I believe is a question of education and something I think can be fixed, I agree it is a problem though. You can be unique and still have an understanding that you share everything in common with the universe around you.

The second one I agree is a problem mainly because the people that are causing the issues in the first place lack knowledge of the world around themselves.

All I do know for sure is that we would be wise to address these problems in a constructive manner soon. Unfortunately I think our waiting till the last minute and we have no other choice is what is going to make our species extinct. I think by that time it will be too late and we will no longer be able to survive on this planet.

been less likely that it would have been her son if she couldn't

It is surreal to me to see the liberals and conservatives on these issues. This also points out a weird phenomena of roll reversal. On the issue of guns I see the liberals acting like most conservatives do and becoming bullies. They have been acting like the stubborn assholes they claim to be better then. I have noticed a similar phenomena where feminist issues come into play. Mainly with so called, “rape jokes”. I think that the jokes are of poor taste, but that is my personal opinion. (Also, idiots that claim troll comments are threats do great harm to real threats. Threats over the internet, regardless of whether or not the “know where you live” should be treated skeptically. Use common sense.) People should have common sense about these things and to not take things so personally. People tend to make jokes out of fear. Anger comes from fear and the only way to get past your fear is understanding. (This means educate yourself about your world and most importantly question yourself. Especially, when you are truly angry at someone or something.)  A lot of people claim common sense, but few use it and none of us are exempt. (This includes me too!)
The point is and I did try to catch peoples attention with this. (I used the word “drama” and predictably everyone, moaned and groaned about it.) Because something is dramatic and you label it something else does not make it less dramatic. Think about it this way and I am doing my best to articulate ideas here, so please bare with me and attempt to understand it. The point of interest is when generally liberal people turn conservative and vice-versa. The roll reversal that takes place in each of these instances should be payed attention too. (Note: Using CAPS for effect in writing is fine. It suggests tone, style, and relaxed writing and is more interesting to read when not abused.) The key is that there is enormous potential to come to the middle and have an understanding. The most irrational responses from either side come from fear and trying to control the other side thru fear. It is like when people talk about taxes. I have been in some heated debates about the subject and I noticed something beyond the philosophical debate of whether or not anybody should be taxed. What it really came down to was that they did not like what was being done with their tax money and that is something that I think all sides can agree on at least for the most part.
I think that if more people could work on translating what one another say to each other they could arrive at an understanding. It seems to me that both sides simply stop listening to each other. (BIG Note: Tongue  When it comes to religious arguments there is no room for debate. The question of whether or not something exists beyond our comprehension is in its self irrelevant. One thing is certain religion has nothing to it except historical references.) Anyways, the one thing that still remains the same is someone forcing their opinion on another. Banning things is never the answer. Everyone including myself at one point should be ashamed of themselves for letting the terrorists win with the events of 9/11. If you were terrorized and acted like an idiot saying stupid shit after the fact and letting your freedoms go because your afraid, they won. They beat America into submission, they have made America more like they are. We lost the so called, “War” the moment we gave up one freedom or right. Also I see a lot of people getting really worked up over thought crimes and allowing them to happen.  Be very careful about letting that happen even if you abhor that persons thoughts. Be concerned about the victims and not the objects.  Try not to be distracted by words and miss facts. If I say that there is a lot of prohibition violence in America today, it has a very different meaning then the other statements you read or hear. We all know common sense we just have to learn to use it and be aware that our own emotions prevent us from this. Think about it like this, how many of you out there have read this and think there is something wrong with nudity or sexuality?

"No matter how old or young everyone is worth it, everyone can learn and no one is beneath you unless they claim to be above you." -Myself
