Missing my old cat, and feeling guilty for leaving it behind.
Yeah, I know this is going to sound like a stupid problem, but I really need to get it off my chest.

I had a terrible childhood.
I grew up with an abusive, mentally ill father, that would hurt me verbally, mentally and physically.
When I was 16 years old, he bought me a cat (don't ask me why, even to this day, I have no idea why he did that), and that creature became the life of my day in those dark times.

Like I said, my dad was horrible. Sometimes he would lock me in my room for a long time, even days, with no food or water. The cat would be there to keep me company.
Sometimes when he got abusive, the cat would actually jump at him, and try to bite him or claw at him, to keep him from hurting me, and he would let his anger out on the poor creature instead of me.
Point is - we went through a lot together, and I really loved that cat.

When I turned 18 I got away as fast as I could, not even thinking about brining the poor cat with me.
Even to this day, I deeply regret that, especially because I know the cat is still alive and living with my dad (and knowing my dad, he probably still abuses it).
People tell me to just "get over it" and that "it's just a cat", but I can't just get over it.
I miss my cat, and I feel guilty about leaving it behind, and I just don't know what to do with these feeling.

I got nothing...unless there was some way to get the cat back.

I wish.

I really want to just go and get the cat, but 1) I'm scared what my dad would do if I showed up, and 2) I have no way to prove that it's legally my cat, meaning I could be blamed for theft.

Ya I kinda figured. I'm sorry. I really am...wish there was more I could do.

Is there a way you could adopt a cat from a shelter? Not as a replacement cat, but to give another cat a chance. Many older cats are just wonderful but aren't considered adoptable because of their age.

Just tossing that idea out there -- don't know if it's even feasible for you.

Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

You could go and ask for the cat. Just do it safely.

What Chas said, or maybe another family member or friend could find out about the cat for you.

If go ask for it back. Bring a few people with you. Safety in numbers

You could stalk the puss. Does he leave it outside, ever ? Lure it, and go carefully kidnap it.

Or just take consolation in the fact that the cat's just waiting for the bastard to die ... so it can eat him.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

This makes me sad, Muffy Puffy. I bet if you could grab the cat while the old bastard is away, he'd just think the feline wandered off. Yes

It was just a fucking apple man, we're sorry okay? Please stop the madness Laugh out load
