Mixed emotion anniversary
So, it was fours years ago tomorrow that I got the call that my biopsy was positive for breast cancer and my world changed. I don't know if I will ever forget that call. It came after several tests that were done over a period of nearly a month. The doctor (radiologist and breast cancer specialist) called me, I was at work. I walked outside to take the call. She told me the results were in and that I had tested positive. I sat there trying to take it in. It was like time stood still. Apparently, I forgot to talk. She asked if I was still there and I told her yes. She asked if I was okay and I responded that I was just breathing...it's really all I could do right then.

That call was followed with a dizzying flurry of appointments and more tests and this doctor and that doctor and information coming in at a rate that was hard to absorb. However, within a matter of a day or two I had already decided to have both breasts removed...what came next...I was still researching.

Four years...they told me I had Triple Negative Breast Cancer and that it is quite aggressive and would either kick my ass in three years or my risk level would drop to that of a the average person. I still wait for the standard five year mark to be declared fully cancer-free.

Four years...have been through so much. Have dealt with so much. Have lately seen so much improvement with the pain issues and nerve damage suffered.

You guys have been such a support in more ways than I can ever explain or thank you for. For the last year and a half this community has been my go-to place, I don't know how I managed prior to finding you all.

And yes, I thank the doctors...all the doctors and the scientists behind the scenes. And the wonderful, wonderful nurse at the plastic surgeon's office. And my family practice physician who helped keep me from flying apart in a thousand different directions both through her concern and the medications to help keep my mind more quiet. In large part, this forum took the place of those meds.

I simply cannot thank you all enough...the doctors helped me heal my body, you guys helped me heal my heart and my mind. Heart

Even though we have never met in person, Angie, I can confidently say that my family and I love you and appreciate you. I'm so happy to have met you, and I'm happy that you are a survivor.

You're an awe-inspiring woman; someone that Jess and I are honored and blessed to be able to call a "friend".

Thank you for the person that you are.

Glad to hear of the improvement. Here's to one more year of it and declaring victory!

I am sorry that you had to go through (are going through) all of that. Some scary shit. Cancer certainly doesn't discriminate, because you of all people certainly don't deserve it. Hug

A-
I'm just a newbie here and don't know you, but I just had to reach out and hopefully send some positive vibes your way. One of my best friends is a woman I used to work with who went through the exact same thing. During the time we worked together, she celebrated that 5 year mark that you mentioned. She is one of the strongest, most positive and admirable people I have ever encountered, as I imagine you are.
Just wanted to (hopefully) brighten your day. Hug
