Model of the universe
This is huge. Pun intended, but it really is extraordinary.

Universe simulation

Never before has such a detailed and precise model of the universe's evolution been done, and it pretty well confirms that our existing theories of how the universe behaves on large scales to be correct.

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.

RE: Model of the universe
Thanks for posting this. I read some articles on this the other day, but they lacked pictures. I rely heavily on visual learning if a particular subject is beyond my own grasp. The video helps a lot.

Most welcome. That's why I didn't post it yesterday when I first read about it. Having a visual is so much better sometimes.

Saw it today.

I love these things. They always make me feel so small. But then there's this sweet, yet almost painful awe for how all this came to be.

Just this. I no longer feel small at all when it comes to the universe.

I just saw this on Facebook. I think it's appropriate.

That's a simulation.
Not a model of our universe. (or I think.)

All simulations are built upon models, in this case the laws of physics (as we currently understand them) extrapolated to the time and scale of the observable universe.

A simulation is just a model operating over time.

I put Our
As in, our exact universe.

It is a model of our reality, using our discernible laws of physics; and given our timescale it created something that looks surprisingly similar to our universe.

If on the other hand you'd rather just have them copy-paste out universe (or super cluster, or galaxy, or solar system), then check out Universe Sandbox.
