RE: Most Ridiculous Christian Warning I've Heard
The "sheep" business has roots in the Old Testament, what with the Lord being my shepherd and all.

My thought is the metaphor is an historical accident caused by a certain legendary King allegedly having started out as a shepherd.

Otherwise the Lord might have been my dairy farmer perhaps. And much later, Christians would have been Jesus' cows. Angel

Nonsense is nonsense, but the history of nonsense is a very important science.

All this talk about sheep makes me think of another phrase that has an opposite meaning than intended, that Jesus is a "fisher of men."

So the fisherman (Jeebus) uses bait to catch fish.

Bait is nothing more than a promise of a reward—an empty promise of a reward that the fish never gets to enjoy.

The fish are captured, killed, and consumed.

So, he really is a fisher of men.
