that's an interesting question that we can probably explore in a video Smile

Here's one that has intrigued me since I joined...
TTA Forum:
Debate Forum within a wider TTA Community?
or
Community that debates?

There have been a few threads on this in the past so no need to re-hash but I'm wondering how the data can help to determine the truth of the matter.

For example:
Does a high 'likes given' (against 'likes received') count equate to a 'community' approach.

And another:
Can we identify the members of the forum with the 9 Belbin team characteristics and hence, if / when we don't have the right balance, is this what leads to the implodes we experience occasionally?

I'm not sure how you could determine those roles from the data we have but they sure are interesting. I can certainly use them in my work as cat herder for a bunch of computer programmers. Thanks! Thumbsup

This one I can see how to answer, at least for individual members, just by looking at where they post. BuckyBall and Mark Fulton are theologians who post primarily in the Atheism and Theism forum to inform, educate, and yes debate. I hardly ever post in the Athiesm and Theism forum because to be honest I just don't give a shit about that stuff. So yeah, I can see how to generate a histogram of posts for an individual member to classify them as a "debater" or "comrade".

And it's easy enough to generate a histogram of the entire forum just by looking at the number of threads and posts. Since some forums have been around a lot longer than others I do a simple normalization of calculating the average number of posts/thread. If the average length of a thread is an indicator of "debate forum" or "commie comrade bastards forum" (and I ain't saying it is, the Intro forum, for example is highly skewed because of the "Introduce Yourself HERE!" and the "Show me your balls!" threads, there's nothing normal about that distribution), and if we consider the "debate" forums as Phil, Atheism/Theism, Forum Shit, Conspiracy Nuts, and Politics and the rest as "community", we find that neither is particularly dominate. We are a nice mix of the two. Big Grin

Good thinking. Thanks.

Maybe I should do a separate Belbin thread and let people self-identify.
Or maybe everyone can take some guesses about each other.

E.g.
Mark and Bucky are Specialists
LJ is a Team Worker
My bet is that you are a Completer/Finisher because you cannot let the obscurestest of references go by without posting a vid/link.
ftr, I am a mix of Plant, Monitor Evaluator and Co-ordinator.
(I score zero for Completor/Fin... squirrel!)

Good luck with using Belbin with your team.
I have used it many times and can vouch for its effectiveness.
