My 2nd Grade Indoc- Err, Catechism
I got out my old Catechism book that I had to read in 2nd grade, and it just about made me sick just reading it. Parts of it are simply illogical, others are demeaning, but some are downright brainwashing. This sort of thing ought to be illegal. Here are some of the worst:

"1. Who made you?
God made me...
I belong to God because he made me."

"God made me to be happy with Him forever.
I cannot be happy without God.
I need God"

"I must not offend God by sin.
I must want to please him...
To be happy I must please God in everything."

"25. Is this sin passed on to us from Adam?"
Yes, this sin is passed on to us from Adam...
We are born with this sin on our soul.
We are born without grace in our soul."

"33. What happens to those who die in mortal sin?
Those who die in mortal sin are punished forever in the fire of hell.
Hell is a terrible place.
Those who are there suffer great pain.
They are slaves of the devil."

"21. How does Jesus help all men to gain heaven?
Jesus helps all men to gain heaven through the Catholic Church.
The Church is like a ladder to heaven.
Jesus gave us only ONE ladder.
The Church is our only way to heaven."

Re-reading this stuff, it feels like a "miracle" that I ever started thinking for myself...

I'll take "Brainwashing Techniques" for a thousand, Alex.

It's good to see that people are using my indoctrination template. I've made millions off of religions and similar organizations wanting a quick fix for their indoctrination needs.

Honestly though this shit disgusts me.

wow, I don't think I have ever come across anything of the sort. That just looks weird to see such books exist to me.

Wow. That's some serious indoctrination! I'm so glad my Mom's neighbor lady 2 houses down was a divorced/single mom with 5 kids.
She was Catholic, but since she got divorced, they refused to let her take communion. Oh, but they sure wanted her to send her kids to school, there. She said, "You don't want me, you can't have my kids... or my money."
I hate to think how Cathleen, Maureen, Colleen, Kevin, and Joey might have turned out. If their Parents hadn't divorced, the world might have seen 5 more red haired, brainwashed, psycho, Catholics running around. They were bad enough as it was... marauding little bastards - we were all best friends as kids. Smile

I think in the end, I just feel like I'm a secular person who has a skeptical eye toward any extraordinary claim, carefully examining any extraordinary evidence before jumping to conclusions. ~ Eric ~ My friend ... who figured it out.
