My case against the existence of a soul
My case against the existence of a soul and consequently, the existence of hell.

According to the bible, us heathens are doomed to suffer in a lake of fire for all of eternity. That means that we will experience pain after death. While here in our living bodies we experience pain via receptors that send signals to our brains alerting us to pain. When we die, we do not take our bodies with us, the brain and receptors are left to rot, yet we experience pain in hell. This can only mean that the soul is capable of feeling pain. Aye, here is the rub: If our souls can experience pain and it encompasses our bodies during life, then why does our bodies need pain receptors if the soul can handle the job? I have a hard time believing that god in all his infinite wisdom would be so ridiculously redundant. The logical conclusion to this consideration is that there is no soul, just as there is no hell and no god

Along similar lines, if the brain is damaged in any way it can have very large effects on memory and personality. That makes perfect sense if the mind is a product of the physical brain but is hard to explain if the soul is just driving a meat machine around.

I think you would really like a book by Julien Musolino called The Soul Fallacy.

Yea, pain requires an entire support structure that is physical in nature and demonstrably natural.

If a soul generated pain, then anesthesia wouldn't work.

If any physical pain is experienced in the afterlife, then how are the physical mechanisms held in place to enable this pain?

I guess god ensures pain receptors will stay fully functional sans body?

Great points! And I would just like to add that the lake of fire was something the Egyptians came up with.

Funny thing about "souls"...

Nobody's ever seen one, measured and quantified one, taken a picture of one, gotten a physical sample of one.....

BUT....

There's a shitload of cavedwellers out there that insist I have one......

....

Sure..... It's hiding behind my karma, right next to my chi.....

....

Fucking bucketheads...

The difference between prayer and masturbation - is when a guy is through masturbating - he has something to show for his efforts.

You have no case.
Yes, we die and spirit leaves physical body. But then according to the Bible before the Judgement Day ALL people will be resurrected. It means only one thing - all people will have physical bodies again. Resurrection - spirit re-unites with physical body.
P.S. "Lake of fire" is symbolism which many people do not understand including you.

"According to the bible", you have no fucking case whatsoever. Even if the bible were a credible source, you still would have no legs to stand on (Lieutenant Dan) because the bible only talks about believers recieving new glorified bodies, not unbelievers. Also, Jesus talks about in the parable of Lazarus and the rich man, that the rich man was in torment (prior to the ressurection mind you). Please take your fairy tales elsewhere

Also, if resurrection means that I reunite with my body, what happens if I'm cremated and had my ashes dumped into the ocean, gobbled up as fish food and pooped out?
