My cello restoration project
Soooooooooo... I got a cello. It has everything except the tailpiece that holds the strings at the base, it has a new bridge, new strings, etc. So what's there to restore?

Well... the body is extremely scratched and nicked here are some example photos

most damaged part of the cello (at the very base)

what are your thoughts? I got this cello technically for free so I can invest money in repairing the cosmetic repairs. It's a nice cello underneath it's outward ugliness Tongue

Depends whether you want to restore it, play it as is or fix it up a bit. I would string it up and play it for a while to see how it sounds. Then I would decide whether it was worth a fix-up or a restoration.

Which I plan to do first, I have to purchase the tailpiece and have that installed onto the cello before I can string the instrument and play it. But after I do that then I plan to make my decision.

I have to take it to someone who fixes cellos to get the tailpiece installed anyways so I can get an appraisal for body damages then

Perfect. That is what I would do.
