RE: My christian friend
I did some Googling and can't find a single reliable source that backs up the claim of a footprint in Permian strata.

See this article for some ideas about the fossilized footprint: http://paleo.cc/paluxy/zapata.htm

I'm of the opinion that the print was either faked, the rock comes from a more modern source, or both. It seems extraordinarily well-preserved for 250 million years...

It is evidence that an advanced Atlantean-like civilization existed on earth 100s of millions of years ago.

It was just a fucking apple man, we're sorry okay? Please stop the madness Laugh out load

Quote:The Zapata track has not been demonstrated to be a real footprint, nor has any evidence been provided that the rock came from a Permian rock formation. Without more substantial evidence regarding its origin, the print is a curiosity at best, not reliable anti-evolutionary evidence.

I should pay more attention. I didn't notice you had posted that link.

Yeah, perhaps great minds do think alike.

I agree with the other posts that this looks like a hoax. I think your best response is to ask for more information, specifically three things:

1. More info on "paleontologist Jerry MacDonald." What academic institution is he affiliated with?

2. Where/when was the research on the fossil published and who did the dating of it?

3. What museum is currently displaying the fossil?

If this fossil had any credibility they'd be jamming it down Dawkins' throat.

Let us know here how they respond to these questions.

There is zero mention of a fossil human footprint at the official sites about Jerry MacDonald and the Trackways National Monument in New Mexico.

Quote:Prehistoric Trackways National Monument, New Mexico

In the mid-1980s paleontologist Jerry MacDonald brought national recognition to the Robledo Mountains, located northwest of Las Cruces, NM, when he found abundant fossilized trackways of ancient vertebrates and invertebrates. These trackways belong to the Permian Period (299-252 million years ago), tens of millions of years before the dinosaurs, at the end of the Paleozoic Era (542 -252 million years ago). Research conducted by scientists from the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science (NMMNHS), in collaboration with researchers from around the world, has proven the Robledo trackways to be one of the most important examples of the life habits of Late Paleozoic terrestrial animals. The fossil record in the Robledo Mountains has given scientists a unique window hundreds of millions of years in the past and because of this it was dedicated as Prehistoric Trackways National Monument (PTNM) in March of 2009.

The PTNM also contains fossils of other types, equally important and of interest to a broad range of scientists. Among these are various remains of fossil plants, studied by scientists from the Smithsonian, University of London and University of California, Berkeley. The most common of these fossils are primitive conifers, some of which are the earliest of their kind yet found.

Quote:Trackways can be difficult for the general public to find at the monument and there is very little in the way of interpretation. Many of the slabs pulled out by Jerry MacDonald are housed at the New Mexico Museum of Natural History and Science, although they are not on display at this time. The Las Cruces Museum of Natural History is building a new facility that will feature the trackways but is not due to open till 2012.

RE: My christian friend
barlow, there is no way to debate christians. they are too stupid. i wouldnt even spend the time trying to disprove anything your friend thinks proves god. just walk away. i had a debate with a guy that still thinks the earth is 6k years old. i explained to him that there are stars that are a million light years away, that we can see, which means the light would have left a million years ago for us to see it now. he said its all bulllshitttt.
