Could try explain "Vermont" to us international people?

I'll give it at try. Vermont is Libertarian as all fucking get out. They don't give a shit about any of the polls or the rest of the shit the rest of us might think. And yet they keep electing the admitted socialist Bernie Sanders as their senator. Vermont is motherfucking smart.

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

I have always voted for whoever was the most socialist (small s).

I figured it was just common sense. Didn't matter if I liked them or not.

If you have one candidate hot for social justice and the other who is pro-entrepreneur / american dream / "it's a dog eat dog world, we have to be strong" etc.... who would be most likely to represent me (as part of a community) and who would be most likely to represent themselves?

With a Utilitarian model, there's always a chance that you end up on the wrong side of the "most good for most" calculation but with the "Darwinian" model, it seems to me most likely that I would end up being the second dog not the first.

Let's hope there are still enough critical thinkers (active not passive, KC) left in the US to do the right thing today.

Vote wisely, my friends.

It's not necessarily one thing... it's just an eclectic collection. I'm talking about the stuff that theists do or say that just make you "..."

I've always said, "Where are y'all finding these people? I've never come in contact with anyone like this."

I noticed it this morning in Sunday School. The lesson was on a believer's faith being "spoiled" per Paul in Colossians. The questioned was asked, "What are some things that can 'spoil' someone's faith and cause them to abandon it."

Someone said "knowledge". I sarcastically chuckled as I thought it was a joke; however, the rest of the class agreed. They were saying stuff like "Yeah, it seems that more smart people are atheists." and "The more education someone has the more likely they are going to abandon their faith."

They justified it by saying that the smarter people are arrogant and rely on themselves and not God.

We also had one guy say, "...and it seems like the smart people all believe in 'theory' of evolution."

I just sat there. Didn't say a word. I was sort of shocked.

How in the world could you ever shun knowledge? Or wisdom? Or science?

I know sooner or later I'm going to be chased out with torches and pitchforks. The day is coming.
You have completely summed up the way I have viewed some religious people in the very short span that is my life.

I cannot possibly understand how knowledge and intelligence are shunned and people pride the ignorant. They bash science and yet constantly use it while it was never God's original creation. They remain hypocrites in this constantly evolving world.

I have a very Christian friend and she once yelled at me because I told her intelligence leads you away from the reliance of theism. She got upset and said it was better to believe in faith than science. I asked her immediately if God only likes the stupid. The perfect being I would envision in my mind would be one who shared its knowledge and spread its wisdom to the beings he created. Not tell them to be idiotic enough to believe that the world is six thousand years old or that Noah's ark is historic fact.

It bothers me so much that people choose stupidity and praise it. It is just absurd to me that humans willingly give up what makes us most different from every other living being on this planet for a dream that the dumb can only hope to achieve.

The way to see by Faith is to shut the eye of Reason.” -Benjamin Franklin

It has been a long time. How have you been?
