Years ago I hung out with some people that had come up with some weird names...Lucious, Rowdy, Jarvis, are some examples.

These kids go to school with my kids

(I could nitpick about some of the genders, mind)

Minerals? Amber, Beryl, Ruby, Jade, Jasper, Jewel, Opal, Garnet, Golda, Crystal, Coral, Rocky, Sandy, and (arguably) Pearl.

Sandy is from Sandra ie Alexandra. And Jasper not from the stone. Besides, most of those only became personal names rather recently (as in, a couple decades).

I have a cousin Garnet. It still sounds weird to me as a name.

...

Actually, what really bothers me is when surnames are used as given names. All that tells me is that someone's parents were idiots.
EDIT: like this nonsense

Go with Bob. Doesn't matter what gender, go with Bob. If you have more than one still go with Little Bob, Littler Bob, Littlest Bob, ... When you run out of adjectives just reverse the letters and start over with boB. Thumbsup

As it was in the beginning is now and ever shall be, world without end. Amen.
And I will show you something different from either
Your shadow at morning striding behind you
Or your shadow at evening rising to meet you;
I will show you fear in a handful of dust.

Why not? When they eventually asked you "Why'd you name me Bob, mommy?" You could answer " 'Cause I loved that damn hamster." ... Good times. Big Grin

I'm liking all those names and many more.

I work with some interesting characters:

Elbert
Thywenston
Eckhart

Each of them has a nickname, I didn't know Elbert's gub-mint name for the first 5 years I knew him.

I also know a James who goes by Larry, a Robert who goes by Ralph, people known almost exclusively by their last names.

Feel free, but be considerate. That kid will have to learn cursive sometime in his/her life. LOL Lizzy Rizzuto anyone?

Just pick the top few names for whatever year the kid is born...

Like for 1986 boys names:
1.Michael
2.Christopher
3.Matthew

So I just got all three, in that order... [sarcasm]REALLY imaginative Mom n Dad..[/sarcasm]
