My hero is dead.
Some of you might have noticed that I had the title "Chruch of Menza" as my title for 2 years. I meant that genuinely. Nick Menza's work in Megadeth was what made me want to play drums all in all. I loved him.

Now he's dead, while performing with a band I wanted to see.

This is not really that unexpected. He battled recovery from heroin abuse for years. It must have caught up with him. But it is still unbelieveable. He popped up again from out nowhere, advertising for Soultone Cymbals in 2012:

I was happy he was back on his feet. Now this happens.

My condolences go out to his family which appeared several times in his videos, aswell as Dave, Marty and Junior; his brothers for the best ten years Megadeth ever had.

This is gonna take a bit of toll on me. It's one thing to see a great musician pass, but another to see your hero and idol, much like it was to lose Jeff Hanneman in 2013.

I will miss you very, very much Nick. You magnificent bastard with the coolest drumkit in the world:

I'll finish this with his best drumtrack and Megadeth's own death hymn.

It just sucks when a hero or someone you just deeply respected or admired dies.

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

My condolences, ELK. Sad

Like Dime Bag, and Jeff, before him, it fuckin sucks when a bad ass ceases to be. Sadcryface

If I could ever have said to have had a hero, it would have been George Carlin, so I know how ya feel. He passed in 2008. To this day, I sometimes forget he's gone. But that's because George, just like Nick, left behind a monumental body of work that will never die. Evil_monster

The main reason he inspired me so much was his energy. He rose his hands in the air, stood up at the end of the songs, threw drumsticks; he communicated with the crowd like no other drummer I'd seen. He was a one man show. And he was fast. Oh satan was he fast.

That's indeed a bummer ... at least he died in harness.

NOTE: Member, Tomasia uses this site to slander other individuals. He then later proclaims it a joke, but not in public.
I will call him a liar and a dog here and now.

I felt that when Dime was killed. Still do. Hug

But now I have come to believe that the whole world is an enigma, a harmless enigma that is made terrible by our own mad attempt to interpret it as though it had an underlying truth.

Definitely -- both of us born in D/FW, both of us named after the same man, both of us inspired to play by Ace Frehley from KISS (though I didn't grab a tat), both of us committed to making music from the heart ...
