Mine too, which is weird because it's really obvious how it should be pronounced.

RE: My unfortunate last name.
Well, my maiden name is Bailey. I don't know how many times people have sent us Bailey's Irish Cream whiskey as a gift at Christmas. We never turned any of it down though. Big Grin

RE: My unfortunate last name.
I'm not giving up anything, but my last name sounds similar to a food product. I get people mispronouncing it, in spite of being repeatedly being reminded of the correct pronunciation. My favorite? Supervisor mispronounces it when introducing me to a new person, I correct him, new person asks, "So, which is it?". Facepalm MY pronunciation, ya think?!? FFS.

Edit to add- my last name is two words. It took me over 40 years to get the California DMV to straighten that out, and my sons have just given up. OK, my last name is French, but just think of how many Hispanic last names exist in California, some of which are three words. It ain't that hard. No

RE: My unfortunate last name.
With the last name of Bailey I would also get a lot of "It's a Wonderful Life " references. My dad's name was not George but I had an uncle named George Bailey.

RE: My unfortunate last name.
My first and last names are four-letter English words. Most people pronounce them the way I do.

The biggest mixup tends to be when someone refers to me by my husband's last name or vice versa.

Family name* is "Jewe(two fucking els, please)" People constantly put an "s" on the end as well. "Sorry, but are you seeing more than one of me?" And when I use my name as an internet handle people think I'm Jewish.

My name, Jay Vogelsong (birdsong) makes me sound like a German American Indian.

However, it's nice to have a relatively unique name.
