NOt sure where to ask for some information, but...
So, on another forum (Among-st believers) there was a post containing this nugget:

Quote:"Charles Darwin at first studied medicine and then theology, but abandoned both in favour of natural history at university. As the son of one of the most prestigious and famous doctors of the time and a well known family, his academic weaknesses were strongly overlooked and he was allowed to enrol at university. His student record was so poor and his work was below acceptable that he came close to failure. He was however from a well known family so it was not permissible to remove or fail him; he duly passed and was allowed to graduate. When he did so, he was just an undergraduate and after that he never progressed to any further qualifications; specialist, general or otherwise.

In time however, to give greater credibility to his theories and ideas about evolution, he was 'generously' promoted to 'naturalist', 'scientist' and other titles of repute, despite only possessing the singular degree he was given in his twenties and nothing else. "

And.. I'd just like some help in unraveling the problems/issues/possible (Theists lie? Tell me it in't so!) lies about the above statement.

Thank'e.

Not sure how anything of that nature is relevant to anything but a biography of Charles Darwin.

It's funny how they try to discredit evolution by discrediting the guy who discovered it...they know there is no case against the actual theory.

The reason I ask is that the above quote has been placed in a part of the other forum under.

"Interesting and historical facts"

And I'd simply like to be able to point out whether the above is factual or not. Smile

One need not attain a master's or doctorate to be regarded as a scientist ... just ask Roger Bacon, Ben Franklin, or Albert Einstein.

While all that stuff mentioned there should have no effect on the theory of evolution, some are correct. He was the son of a renown doctor, he did poorly in that field because he was squeamish and couldn't stand corpses they had to work on, and he wasn't interested in that field.

Is a bunch of utter nonsense.

And I don't know if he studied theology and if he did poorly on natural sciences(afaik hee only did poorly in medicine)

Again, that has no effect on the theory of evolution, just like how Newton studying alchemy has no effect on gravity

I don't really like going outside.
It's too damn "peopley" out there....

Google is your friend.

So is Wikipedia.
