How is a lack of belief in gods a political position?
Because the people who espouse the humanist ontological theory, that there is no supernatural dimension of human existence, should always seek to ensure that their governing organization abandons reference to the inaccurate social ideology that theists are supposed to uphold in their communities and society.

It is a severe compromise of humanist logic principles to pander to theists.

Humanism - ontological doctrine that posits that humans define reality
Theism - ontological doctrine that posits a supernatural entity creates and defines reality
Atheism - political doctrine opposed to theist doctrine in public policy
I am right, and you are wrong - I hope you die peacefullyCool

But you have the cart before the horse.

One can be a humanist without being an atheist.

One can support secular government without being an atheist.

Atheism is not a political stance.

Skepticism is not a position; it is an approach to claims.
Science is not a subject, but a method.
