Indeed. But besides the Pacific northwest, also peoples in the southwest, also mexicans and maya, also andean peoples; but also australian aborigines; likewise proto-Germanic tribes, as well as northern aryan groups like the alans and kushan, and peoples such as the huns...

So yeah, lots of people gave it a shot.
