Wow...just wow. They may as well have put an amendment in it to require women who want, or have had, an abortion to where a yellow star or scarlet A. This is infuriating.

Fuck the Christian Taliban!

Women's rights groups have to jump on this and levy a lawsuit. It's a violation of privacy and it's contrary to the implied separation of church and State in the Constitution of South Dakota and the U.S.

And a three day waiting period? That's absurd!

Edit to add: I just checked at NARAL. I don't think these abortion clinics can actually enforce this BS. Though I'd love to see a woman who can afford a top notch attorney kick their teeth in, if they tried.

Why Christian counseling ?
Why not get it from a Satanist or a Wiccan ?
I'm just curios how the idiots think . Are they going to make Muslim , Jewish or Hindi women see a Christian perspective - oh man will this flare up - especially from a 1st amendment perspective.

And a woman should have a right to her own body - how's about that. How about we allow women to do what they want with their own body and not force them to be breeding mills.
Damn this is so pathetic.

It's a Patriarchal exclusivist cult mentality. Christian Taliban believe theirs is the only faith on earth that is a true faith, worthy of power and control over all things in the secular realm as well as the ecclesiastical.
They think every other denomination needs to hear the zombie message, so women that are Muslim, Jewish, Wiccan, Satanic, are all damned from the beginning for living a false faith, so the Christian Taliban that works to insure this kind of Legislation get passed into law believe they're not only saving a child, but they're saving souls in the process.

I'd love to see a women's activist group with millions of dollars at their disposal, draft a Bill and obtain a sponsor to put it before a State's Legislature that would force single men to get vasectomies. So that every woman in the State would be less likely to have to make a choice, because single men are neuters.

Oh man, can you imagine the Christian Taliban backlash with that one?

It would be worth it just to watch them combust on Fox News. Tongue

I'm sure we would start getting Ann Coulter's and Bill O'Liely's research staff looking for more biblical passages/religious arguments that would cement the idea of "the sacred sperm" that must not be stopped or tampered with.

RE: New Law Will Force Women to Listen to Religious Lectures Before Getting an Abortion
Ordering women to go to christian counseling is like the court ordering an alcoholic into a 12 step rehabilitation clinic. I still cannot grasp how someone could be ordered to attend one of these faith based programs that asks you to turn your life over to some "higher" power in order to get better.

I can honestly say I do not disagree with the counseling part of abortion but it should not be affiliated with religion of any kind. Having to abort a fetus is a big deal and women who consider it as an option should have someone to talk to about it and to weigh the consequences with that is an objective third party. They should also have counseling to attend after the abortion to talk about it, I realize they exist but I think requiring at least a preabortion session should be encouraged.
