RE: New Puppy
I must have been on vacation but omg she's adorable!

Heart

I felt my dog was easier to train than my kids...

Yeah...don't say "you aren't supposed to train kids..."

You know what I mean.....

But as if to knock me down, reality came around
And without so much as a mere touch, cut me into little pieces

Let's just call it "keep them out of trouble" Smile

Well, yeah, by the time the dog is one year old you should be well done with all the basics.

She is now 11 weeks old and potty trained - only ever once peed in the house, on the first day here. It helps so much that I am home and have the time...

Current curriculum is that she can only play with what she is handed, what has been given to her. This takes a while and a constantly wakeful eye - consistency is everything. This keeps the furniture safe when she turns into a big large mouthed chewer.

At this age I basically train by making sure undesired behaviors never happen in the first place. It pays off to do it that way.

I once adopted a shelter pup that seemed nice but had a long "rap sheet" of being returned to the shelter. Soon I found out why. She attacked people's feet. Was probably cute as a puppy, people likely played with her with their feet and laughed when the tiny pup looked ferocious. Ruined her life. Well, until I got her and fixed it.

Just an example of why it's best to never let undesireable behaviors happen in the first place...
