New to this forum... Hello
I am an atheist from England...

I stand for the following things:

1) Atheism for me is the lack of belief in the man-made religions of the world. It is therefore not "certain" or "arrogant" as so many theists attempt to make it out to be.

2) Religion and Science are not symmetrical. That is to say if someone commits an atrocity in the name of their religion, it is not equivalent to if someone commits an atrocity using science to enhance the damage they cause... Religion is essentially a ideology whereas Science is a method. If a ideology is causing violence, then the ideology should be criticized. However, if a method has caused violence, then the method itself has actually proven successful and should not be criticized. Rather the ideology should again be criticized.

3) Atheism is humble. it encourages questions and critical thinking... Religion is arrogant. It censors (often violently) questions and encourages faith rather than critical thinking.

4) Science has no prejudice. It is completely unscientific to discriminate against any race, gender, sexuality... Religion is the source of great prejudice and suffering. Many religions promotes slavery, homophobia, xenophobia, racism, and sexism.

5) Either Science will save the planet, or religion will destroy it... Time will tell.

Nice to meet all of you.

Ewok

Welcome to the forum!

Based on what you stand for, I think you'll fit in well here.

Excuse me, I'm making perfect sense. You're just not keeping up.
