Dah fuq? Really?

An infinite set of prime numbers is smaller than an infinite set of odd numbers, which in turn would be smaller than an infinite set of whole numbers, which would be smaller than an infinite set of decimals, etc...

I don't understand how an infinite set of anything could be smaller than an infinite set of anything else. If they both go on forever then how could one be smaller or bigger than the other?

Firstly, EK doesn't know WTF he's talking about. Tongue

Secondly, I tend to think of mathematical infinities as kinda like being volume. Is a sphere "bigger" than a circle?

Sorry, EK, the set of prime numbers and the set of odd numbers are the same size; both are countably infinite - Aleph null in cardinality.

Not to lose you or make you insecure, there are infinitely many sizes of infinities. Shocking

This is true in mathematics and is usually mind-bending when first encountered. There may be no infinities at all in reality. Consider

Numberphile explains this concept really well in the following video.
