Number of the Beast
Anyone else find it irritating when someone says how ominous it is that 6, 6 and 6 appear together in any 3 or more digit value, such as a price? Same goes for when 9, 1 and 1 appear together.
Maybe it just sticks out to me, but i seem to hear it a lot.
whenever it happens, i usually just say it all depends on what you subscribe to.
How is it ominous that values come up as such? What is ominous about the mundane whatever it is related to? Are people just so superstitious that whenever it does come up they get the chills or something?
Kind of a pet peeve, i suppose.

RE: Number of the Beast
I think Vincent Price said it best in Iron Maiden's "Number of the Beast."

Quote:"Woe to you of earth and sea...
for the devil sends the beast with wrath...
because he knows the time is short...

Let him who hath understanding wrecken the number of the beast...
for it is a human number...
His number is six hundred and sixty six..."

It's probably been thirty years since I've listened to that song and I still remember it without looking it up. And it still gives me little chills like it did then. Creepy things are exciting. Just like a horror movie. Ozzy Osborne noted that the songs with the group Black Sabbath were an attempt to put in music the excitement we get out of a horror movie. I sure liked them. "Big black shape with eyes of fire..." Or, "Generals gathered in their masses. Just like witches at black masses."

Quote:One feature of particular interest is the number that this papyrus assigns to the Beast: 616, rather than the usual 666. (665 is also found.) We knew that this variant existed: Irenaeus cites (and refutes) it. But this is the earliest instance that has so far been found.

RE: Number of the Beast
I guess its just the superstitious relation to a mundane or arbitrary value that bugs me.
what is it with numbers that people get so worked up about, especially when it whatever generated the number is totally unrelated to the interpretation of said number?

With that being said, FUCK-YEA OZZY!

RE: Number of the Beast
It's the superstition that makes it great. The number is irrelevent, except that 25.806976801 is a bit much to put into song. :-)

"Oh no. 666. Evil is lurking in the shadows..." Boooo!

RE: Number of the Beast
Will never forget the day we were having a conversation on this same topic at home - we were discussing the number of letters in a persons name. At that moment my daughter realized she was 666 Evil_monster

She plays it up around Halloween time . Smile

My phone number ends in 6666, anytime eyebrows go up I just say "it's ten times worse than you think".
