Discrimination for genetic or medical reasons should be illegal. Race, sex, height, weight, disabilities are all genetic or medical in nature.

But people should have the right to discriminate against choices. Business owners can refuse people with criminal records. Criminal choices lead to fewer job opportunities. Or maybe they dislike Michael Moore for saying something negative about gun rights. He walks into a restaurant and the owner says "get out. I don't serve you anti-American types here." Michael Moore has the choice to be anti-gun or not, and a business owner has the right to refuse service to him. Now if scientists find a gene that makes people against guns, then anti-gun could become a protected class.

To christians, being gay is a choice, not genetic or medical. Christians say all the time "show us proof gay is genetic." They want a gay gene to be found before they'll believe it isn't a choice.

To them, if its a choice, then they can choose not to support those choices.

As I said, this is what I hear from christians, not my personal beliefs on the matter.

I'd love to see a Christians' reaction to someone denying them service because "being religious is a choice". I'm sure they'd calmly accept the repercussions of their bigotry and go elsewhere. Rolleyes
I think most would put up with that if they could get away with it as well. I know a guy who owns an air conditioning repair company that says he would only serve Christians if he could, and is just fine if a Muslim business refused him service.

Christian run businesses already do this in a way. If you look in a telephone book you'll see the stupid jesus fish on some of the business advertisements. Kind of their way of saying "we're a Christian business and we want Christian customers" without directly putting it in words.

Death is a debt we all must pay.

Let gays get married, but don't force religious business owners to make gay wedding cakes or supply flowers to gay weddings.

I understand both sides, and both sides go to the extreme to get their way.

What the actual fuck is a gay wedding cake?

Remove the legal status of marriage.

We no longer use baptismal records as a form of legal identification (it used to be they were).

Why are we still recognizing an outdated concept that is based in religion?

"Traditional Marriage" was not about love, not about commitment, not about child rearing ---- it was about property. The bride was "given" to the groom, remember???

The woman could not vote, own property, or make any financial transactions with the consent of her husband. (read - owner).

The fundies of this world would like you to believe otherwise.

Marriage is not based on religion. So, there's that.

Saying they prefer christian cutomers is entirely different from actively denying goods or services.

Apparently, it's a cake that has two little plastic brides or grooms on top.
I guess the bible says making such an abomination is a one way ticket to hell. Evil_monster

A cake for a gay wedding??

I remember ordering a wedding cake and the subject of who it was for never arose.

And if the baker asked if it was for a gay wedding, I'd tell him to stick a cannoli up his ass.

Seriously, I think they freak out if you ask for it with two little same sex statues on it.

There were no statues on the incredible chocolate cake at my wedding.
