As always, those who commit terrible acts in the name of one religion or another, can't possibly be genuine followers of that faith, but have "hijacked" it to pursue their blood/power lust.

Bullshit...

If religious belief can make people perform acts of self-immolation, there is every reason to think it can make killers out of ordinary people too...

“Those who can make you believe absurdities, can make you commit atrocities.”

That Voltaire bloke has a lot of good quotes in him...

According to one story, his last words were, "Now is not the time for making new enemies." It was his response to a priest at the side of his deathbed, asking Voltaire to renounce Satan. Big Grin

Belief in any god and the associated demands for religious freedom give cover to all forms of religious extremism. Think about how much easier it would be to conduct a war on religious terror if thinking people all over the world would proclaim all of the texts on which their radicalism is founded as bullshit.

Christians don't understand that their belief in the fairy tales is giving cover to murdering misogynist theocrats of all stripes.

That's a good one... I'll have to remember that.
