It's so sad to see these sites.

I feel sorry for the chair. It looks lonely.

RE: Old abandoned olympic venues
It's a shame that they also don't have to become this way... though if it was actual structures with an already build base or identified simple usage process post olympics system that the cities would structure their proposals around and get chosen as winners by, then that would do it.

If they picked city builds that may look to help the city other than just be a "thing." Like it's very good and many people were happy Chicago failed when they were in the running for this years olympics. The then mayor was pushing so hard for it but the plans had so many transportation and "temporary" buildings and plans to demolish projects to build olympic village homes and proclaim to make them cheap housing afterwards but highly likely it would result in it being too expensive.

Or it can wind up like in Sochi Russia after the olympic games. It's abandoned now

outside of the still mostly empty hotel the area has no one really there.

It is ridiculously wasteful.
At least they use a great deal of the Lake Placid facilities, and it was used for the '32 and '80 Olympics.

This is the ancient Greek stadium at Alexandria Troas. It might still useable after more than 2000 years.

The olympics should be permanently in two places, Greece for the summer and Switzerland for the winter. That's very Eurocentric I know but sometimes I think it would be better than the billions spent every couple of years constructing a temporary place for athletics to compete.

Shame most don't do what China did and repurpose them.

I don't remember all of it, but Mexico city's Olympic stadiums have been repurposed. I was there in 2011. They are quite proud of theirs not going to seed.

If they were in Greece only their popularity would plummet.

I don't see the point in the Olympics anyway. We just shouldn't have them.
It's a form of subsidies for stupid sports nobody gives a fuck about.

You mean to tell me you don't like synchronized swimming? I can't imagine why.
