Remember getting towels in powdered laundry detergent?

Oh yeah, and my grocery store sold encyclopedia volumes at 50 cents a piece - dirt cheap. Nicely bound and good quality. They had a new volume every other week. I ended up with all 27 volumes. I bet there are not that many people around who read a whole set of encyclopedias - but I put each new volume in the bathroom and read them there. Tongue

I am pretty sure everybody in town had the same set of dishes bought a piece at a time at the grocery store with 'special' items like gravy boats.

Not many people brought out good china but every house you went to had grocery store tableware.

See here they are the bruises some were self-inflicted and some showed up along the way. - JF

Piling into the back, no-seat section, of the old station wagon in your jammies and Dad driving to town to get ice cream cones. Then falling asleep on the way back and the feel of Dad taking you up to bed and tucking you in.

Sleep in peace, Daddy.

RE: Old people memories
No mobile phones. Man I wish I could back to a time of when, if you couldn't reach somebody, it was totally normal.

Mega Macs - This was another McDonald's thing, back when super-sizing was an option in the UK. A mega mac was a big mac with another layer or two on it.....it was amazing.

The CD booklet one speaks to me a lot. Not only did they have the lyrics but really cool pictures and sometimes little notes from the band and stuff.

A lot of mine revolve around food you can't get anymore lol. Doritos 3D's, various things that are now not safe to eat, Sunny D (although that is back now, except it doesn't make you yellow like it used to lol), those tiny mints that were supposed to be the bit in the middle of Polo's that they pop out lol.

CD walkmans as well. They were total garbage, and you had to carry a bloody disc wallet with you as well, but it's the best we had Laugh out load

Games being actually - I recently downloaded the original sonic for my daughter to play, and had a quick go. God damn I forgot that games these days are like "just play until you win" and not "play until you loose all your lives....then start all over again". Plus its genuinely really hard lol.

Man I'm old now haha.

Bloody cellphones. They're so ingrained in kid's lives these days some of them can't remember they run on electricity.

Still do that in New Jersey because it is illegal to pump your own gas there.

Oh! And TVs with little metal antennas on them. Changing the TV channel on those TVs with a pair of pliers, because the channel knob had fallen off. The total number of channels you could watch was FIVE: the three networks, PBS, and one UHF channel that came in all fuzzy with snow, no matter what you did with the antenna...

Also the vertical hold knob.

RE: Old people memories
When I was a kid, we had a VHS player that had a remote....attached to it by a wire lol.

I remember on UK TV only having the 4 stations, (BBC1, BBC2, ITV [or Granada as it was in my area] and Channel 4). Later on in the earyl 00's we got Channel 5, which was terrible programming, daytime "real life" movies and soft core porn at night. Many years later and it's still mostly the same lol.
