Oh also cassette tapes and pencils. Just saying Big Grin
And I remember I wanted that my voice is on the song on the cassette as well so I got to the song I liked, and at the spot I liked, I started recording on the cassette and "sang along". When I rewinded and listened I was deeply disappointed that I could only hear myself.

I miss the Squeak!

Around thirty years ago the government took the squeak out of cheese curds. Angry

Before then it was made with unpasteurised milk, and the curds were more solid, and they squeaked up a heavenly noise when you chewed them, that was half the fun of eating them.

They changed the law so the curds had to be made with pasteurised milk for "health reasons", even though no one had ever gotten sick from curds before that.

Now...you maybe lucky if you get to the store when a fresh batch is delivered from the cheese factory, you might get some that have a hint of a whisper of a squeak, but nothing like the old days. Weeping

The days before Americanisms displaced a lot of our Aussie (or English) grammar...

Blokes and sheilas are now both "guys", [no sex differences? WTF?]

Ask is now "reach out",

Girls or women are now "chicks", [but presumably not the progeny of hens?]

Forthcoming is now "upcoming",

Most probably is now "likely",

Mates have become "dudes", [what, we're all wannabe cowboys?]

Chips are now "fries",

G'day has become "Hi", [as compared to low?]

Holiday is now "vacation",

Hit is now "impacted", [as with your wisdom tooth?]

Toilet is now "bathroom", [so do I have a shower or a shit?]

Soon is now "momentarily",

Twice has become "two times", [especially for the kids amongst us]

Got has become "gotten",

Have a bath is now "take a bath", [to where may I ask?]

I couldn't care less is now "I could care less", [no, it's the absolute least care you can show.]

etc...

I'm a creationist... I believe that man created God.

Here in America (aka the center of the universe), they have always been fries, short for French fried potatoes (to distinguish them from American fried potatoes). They are usually served fresh and hot, ideally right out of the fryer.

Potato chips, on the other hand, are thin, flat, and roughly disc-shaped (although the discs are usually warped). They are commonly sold in bags, and eaten cold. What do you call those in England and Australia?

I used to buy those when I was a kid, but the gum was so nasty I just threw it out. I only wanted the baseball cards, and I only wanted those for the stats on the back. Nowadays you can get those for free on the internet.

Sitting a 12 hour straight watch on 500 kHz. (That's a maritime band just below the AM dial, in CW only. ( Morse code).).

The sound of a dozen KSR-28 teletypes all clattering away at once....... A teletype can be used over landline or radio to transmit printed text at a whopping 100 words per minute..
