On what issues do you feel you stand alone ?
Sometimes I wonder if im, disagreeing on things just out of impulse.
I get accused of being too sceptical on issues.

but the more I dissect the thoughts, I feel its the correct path.

One thing I have found no agreement on is my belief that the sheer number of different causal probabilities required to result in any self replicating "life" evolving let alone intelligent life, is so great that its likely we are the only planet with even plants.

I think it may be my strong wish for it to be otherwise that triggers my self delusion screen.

People ranting that there are > 10 to the 24 power of stars in the known universe
with trillions of earth like planets, how can there not be other life, even the theists say this too, oddly. Drake equation factoid comes up allot.

I find it rational to assume that even with that many possible earth life planets
the probability is currently unknown, and current understanding of the number of causal probabilities required could mean we really are alone.

So this new evolved in clay hypothesis has got me excited, I may be able to shake my thinking that we are so rare.

and then lament in the fact that the expanding universe rate makes alien interaction improbable.

Theism is to believe what other people claim, Atheism is to ask "why should I".

Man, this is the Internet. I don't think it is possible to have a unique, general opinion here. Tongue

reading anything on the internet is a dangerous thing.. I love the way that the article you posted said

"nobody has been able to explain how inorganic molecules suddenly got together to form complex life"

inorganic.. makes life? give me a break

Factually incorrect before the end of the second paragraph (not that i read the first or most of the second very closely anyway)

and there is a modicum of understanding on the reactions required for life anyway.

I feel like as an atheist I stand alone in being against abortion. Maybe I'm really not alone, who knows. I mean, don't get me wrong, I am pro-choice. I don't feel comfortable judging other people's choices, but for me personally I think abortion is wrong.

Swing with me a while, we can listen to the birds call, we can keep each other warm.
Swing with me forever, we can count up every flower, we can weather every storm.

When I said stand alone I was meaning with RL people.
Abortion is one of those too hard basket, choices.
People cant even agree at what point its a seed vs an self concious entity.

Am I only the only one to think that masturbation in public should have less penalties attached to it?

It's not like I did it on the bus or anything.

Jeez!

Sad

sorry, I first read the title as "On what tissues..."

RE: On what issues do you feel you stand alone ?
I have an unconventional view of causality.

Nature consists of events, that are correlated. But correlation
is not the same as causation. The only time we can say that event A
causes event B is when we are able to manipulate event A, and
we are able to observe event B. In other words, we have an experiment
that can be repeated.

In that sense, we CANNOT say that the big bang caused the expansion of the universe.
Because we cannot create big bangs and see what happens after that. We deduce
that there was a big bang from observations in the current universe. In that sense,
the big bang is a consequence of our observations and not the other way around.

The question, what caused life in the universe is an useless question. The one thing
that is without question is, that we observe and exist. In that sense, the universe is
a consequence of our existence, rather than the other way around.

I seem to be adverse to Metaphysical thinking, to me humans and human thought is inconsequential.
