Opportunistic Evangelists Vent
So I need to vent and laugh just a bit.
My 20 year old daughter died mysteriously last spring; it pretty much destroyed whatever faith in any "God" forever. LIfe and the world are just a great big crap shoot. And, if by some bizarre chance, there really is a God, then he and I will have some testy freaking words when my time comes as I attempt to lift my leg and pee on that omnipotent being.
My problem here is that the evangelists in my little town seem to believe my tragedy has made my family a damned target for their ministries. If I am not fielding Mormons at the door, it's the bloody Jehova's Witnesses haunting my wife. The Mormons I can be polite with since they usually are wet behind the ears farm-boys from nowhere Utah (actually between nowhere and nowhere's asshole): I usually just tell them that I don't have any appreciation of their "God" and they are wasting valuable time trying to preach to me. The JWs are another issue altogether; they make my wife cry every damn time they turn up and they never turn up when I am there to escort them off the property. Its like they know how weak my wife is right now and they are trying to inject their brand of evil into her when she is down and failing.
Bloody parasites.

RE: Opportunistic Evangelists Vent
I am very truly sorry for your loss. I know they're just words, but my sympathies are yours. I'd feel the exact same way if something happened to my own daughter.

It's no surprise that the Jehova's Witless are coming around when you're not there. They are sneaky and strategic, and I've heard JW's discuss how they scope out homes for their proselytizing. College football coaches could take a few lessons from them. Parasites, indeed.

Is there someone who could stay with your wife while you're not there, who can help her since she is so vulnerable?

RE: Opportunistic Evangelists Vent
Jerks! How is it that we, as atheists, are expected to stay quiet and patient (as we should) when religious people are doing their ceremonial services and actions when they grieve, but when we grieve we don't receive the same courteous respect? It boggles my mind the entitlement some people display.

Sorry to hear about your daughter, life is just rough sometimes.

Very sorry for your loss, Bryce.

As for the JWs, how about a neat but prominent sign taped to your door, saying something like: "JEHOVAH'S WITNESSES, MORMONS, AND OTHER PROSELYTIZERS: You are not welcome here. Get off our property immediately or we will call the police." That should do the trick.

Religious disputes are like arguments in a madhouse over which inmate really is Napoleon.
