Lightbulb Origin of religious belief
Anyone got a hypothesis of how religion originated??? To cope with the inevitability of death would play a role in its development, I would think. I believe it's a evolutionary by-product of the mind.

RE: Origin of religious belief
Personally i think that religion originated partly to deal with the inevitability of death, as you say, but also partially to try and understand and explain the world around them.

I recommend watching this video: http://b2.is/?sida=tengill&id=350929

It's an Icelandic link, but leads to a Carl Sagan video called "A universe not made for us" where he deals, at least in part, with the question of the origin of religion.

The best way to understand the origin of religion is to study the evolution of the human soceity. You have to see it like bond not separate from the human evolution.
My suggestion is to study this book and you can make a great start in understanding that atheism is one of the answers that dialectic materialism has to offer in human as the only correct theoty of human knowledge...
