Out of the closet!
Okay, just came out of the closet, and it didn't go well(but not as bad as I've heard). My mom tried to guilt trip me. She talked about how she was older and wiser, and that she had her reasons to believe in god but would not share them with me(ridiculous). She said my father was an atheist studying microbiology, and she convinced him to be a christian. Despite my firm atheism(more accurately agnosticism, but I prefer the term atheist), I could not help being shaken by her firm belief. I showed her the contradictions, yet she said that they are not contradictions, but complimentary stories.Shocking What the hell!?! She said the top scientists do not agree with evolution, but could not name one. Apparently though, they believe in aliens(not sure why you can't believe in aliens and evolution but, whatever) that somehow created us. In typing this, I feel so much better as I am realizing just how absurd her claims were. My father gets back friday... this is going to be bad.

RE: Out of the closet!
If I were in Vegas, I would bet that the next couple of days with your Mom will be the hardest. She's in shock- you have given her the worst news that she could hear from you. If your Dad really was atheist before, and now believes as she claims, I would bet that he believes because it makes his wife happy.

Try to keep your cool, even when they are losing theirs.

Ugghh. Now she's trying to act like it didn't happen, while I listened to her conversation with my dad about me over the phone. I really hope that my dad is a fake christian, but I doubt it as he isn't a liar. Not that you were saying he was, I just don't think he would go along with that, he built a church, so he's pretty into it, although we don't go anymore. I almost wish I was being austrisized(I'm a bad speller), I hate being guilted.

RE: Out of the closet!
Mom is doing fine, but my dad is not.
He is still mad/dissapointed/childish

i regonize 1 argument my dad makes that looks familiar with yours.
its like this
"personal experiences have lead me to god.
You dont believe cuz your young and have no experience of life. When you get older, you will realize you were wrong"

but he also fails to talk about those "experiences".
Or he tries, but i find a rational explanation for them pretty easy

but that argument drives me nuts!
How can you say why i dont believe in god eventho i already said why?
How can you simply say its a fucking phase?
Not cuz im a teen i dont know shit!
Have you never considered it might be a charlatan tricking you or a halicunation!
So unless you know it cant be explained by science now, dont bother presenting it!
Sorry Blush had to vent...
