Outlawing prostitution
I've always known that European MEP's are mostly lazy dumbbells with their snouts so deep in the trough, that it's a wonder they don't choke or suffocate to death, but really? This is the solution to the problem of prostitution? Why, I bet no one's ever thought of that before. Give me a break!

The EU should declare war on this issue. We did that with alcohol, poverty and drugs. All those issues are now solved, oh wait, we still have those issues. Nevermind.

RE: Outlawing prostitution
Aww, man, that would kill one of my two reasons for going to Amsterdam...

On a more real note, one of the things I admire most about countries with legalized prostitution is that the government imposes certain laws, such as protection MUST be used and sex workers MUST carry medical records of frequent STD checks. Make it illegal, and these safety measures are no longer imposed.

But be certain of one thing, making prostitution illegal does not stop prostitution. It's illegal just about everywhere in the United States and yet it happens just about everywhere in the United States. Making it illegal just means criminal prostitutes become victims of criminal pimps/madams, get no medical benefits, spread diseases, suffer the whims of their pimps/madams, and continue practicing their trade every day. None of that is good.

If these idiot feminist groups had even a shred of a clue, they would be DE-criminalizing prostitution so the prostitutes, who will be working regardless of the legality of their profession, can at least get the same basic benefits that all other workers in all other professions get.

I suspect that most "militant" feminists are women that couldn't even sell it (I know quite a few feminists, most of them are women I wouldn't pay for sex, in fact, I couldn't be paid to have sex with these feminists) so they, in their untouchability, are jealous of women who are being touched. Jealous of women who get attention that these feminists can't get. The rest of them, for reasons of sexual preference or belief systems that I would consider to be mental disorders, just don't want the sexual attention of men (or in some cases of anyone). This statement applies to almost all "militant" feminists I know, and I know way more than my share. Sure, it's a stretch to say this small sampling group is demonstrative of all "militant" feminists, but it's surely demonstrative of some of them. It seems to me that they're just taking away (usually for no other reason than simple spite) that which they can't have, or that they personally despise.

RE: Outlawing prostitution
Exactly! It's not a question of making prostitution disappear (it's not going anywhere anytime soon).

It's about making the lives of those who practice this profession at least slightly better and less dangerous and often - humiliating.

And I'm sorry but gender equality? Really? Have they never heard of male prostitutes? Makes me want to puke.

Ban something and hope it goes away. If only it were that simple, we'd have no crime, no religion, no abuse, no injustice...

Keep prostitution legal. Since its unfair to punish people who are often forced into it. Its the scum bags that control them, and the people who use them that are the problem.

Outlawing prostitution
How is it a form of violence? I've apparently been doing something wrong. Huh

Yep, a whole lot of hooey and once again - focusing on the wrong problem.

By the same token the porn industry should also be outlawed.

I'd be the first to admit that there are incredible levels of violence and abuse in those professions, but making them illegal is not going to solve anything, and would only make those vulnerable people even more vulnerable. And once again - there are prostitutes from both sexes; it is not a gender problem, for crying out loud!

I don't know if people are trying to look busy with good deeds around Xmas or what, but I can't see how they can honestly believe this is going to help.

I'm just wondering whether there is any other good or service that these people think should be lawful to give away but not to sell.
